Q: FCPX Red Raw Color Adjust in RedCineX on Multicam Clips Freezes System

Hey People!

So I have a locked cut and am adjusting the red raw files in REDCINE X before I prep it for final color.  Everything has been updating instantaneously in FCPX.  I'm working on a music video, and used multicam clips for the band portion, that I further broke down into compound clips.  When I went to adjust the raw information in REDCINE X on one of those compound/multicam clips, and toggled back into FCPX, I got the spinning wheel of beachball death.  I immediately undid my changes in REDCINE X, but FCPX still did not respond.  I force quit after waiting awhile, and now I cannot open FCPX without the spinning wheel. I've tried shutting my system down, etc, it's stuck.

Can I delete the RMD?  Will that give me the same problem that I'm currently having?  I understand that FCPX is trying to adjust the raw data to every location that file exists, and since its inside a compound clip inside a multicam clip, that its telling me that's too big an ask for my system.  I see that, and I do not mind taking a full day out and removing all of my multicam clips and replacing them with the original file, but I need FCPX to open properly so I can do so?  Anyone have any suggestions?

**Just a note, I really do wish FCPX would allow you to flatten a multicam clip, and after shooting with such hefty files and so many band angles that have taxed my system considerably, which is why I tried to turn them into compound clips, I would rather take the extra time in the beginning of my edit, to not ever use multicam clips again. I would be so appreciative if Apple made the possibility to flatten a multicam clip to 1 camera angle, just as the audition feature allows.**

Putting multicam clips inside compound clips is usually not recommended, but I have to ask: after the crash, did you delete the preferences? You should always delete the preferences, as chances are they got corrupted as a result of the crash, and maybe that is all you have to do to get things back on track.

Flattening a multicam is a feature that some people have asked for - you should use feedback to make a request.

Final Cut Pro->Provide Final Cut Pro Feedback...

In the mean time, you can do it with a bit of manual labor:

    - mark in and out points to export just the multicam as it is to ProRes

    - Duplicate as Snapshot to keep a copy of your project before the changes, and with the multicam still available for editing

    - Use Replace to put the exported version where the multicam was. Now you have a version of your project with the flattened multicam.
