Q: iPad asking for iPhone PIN?
I updated an iPad to iOS 10.
During iOS 10 setup, the iPad flashed a message explaining that the iCloud account was associated with another device - an iPhone - that was protected with a PIN.
I entered the iPhone PIN into the iPad and all was good.
What I don't understand is this: I thought the iPhone PIN was stored locally and in encrypted form on the iPhone only.
My experience here tells me clearly that the iPhone PIN, used to unlock the iPhone, is not stored locally only but is also stored in my iCloud account i.e. it can be sent to an iPad that is using the same iCloud account as the iPhone.
What is going on with this?
