Q: itunes sync session failed to start

running itunes 12.2.2.25 64 bit on Windows 10 Pro.  Suddenly when i connect a device I get the error message

that the sync session failed to start.  Had been working fine up to today.  Looked online and found others with the issue - none of their answers worked.  what's up?
