Q: Credit in iTunes account

Have redeemed £60 of vouchers, which shows in my account on PC in iTunes, but when trying to buy an app on iPhone, it is trying to take funds from credit card and not giving an option to use credit in iTunes account. Credit card has expired and I don't want to update the details of new card since it will just charge my card. Help please!

iPhone 5s, iOS 9.3.5

What exactly happens when you try to buy something ? If you have a credit card on your account it has to be a valid card, irrespective of whether you also have a balance that covers what you want to buy.

Have you tried logging into the account, not when trying to download something, to see if you get the 'none' option so that you can remove the card : Change or remove your Apple ID payment information - Apple Support ? You won't get the 'none' option if you are a family organiser in family sharing (family organisers have to have a card, and can't use a balance).

Thanks, I used the none option, bought an app and it worked fine, took the cost from my iTunes balance. I can now use the credit before I put a card on it again.
