security concerns for my iPhone 6s

This morning someone from a different area tried to log onto my apple ID. I thought no biggie so I denied it and changed my password and then just a little bit ago (after I changed my password) someone from the same area tried again. I think this means they have my password but I'm very concerned and don't understand how they have it. Can someone help?

Read the document Carolyn provided, and I would strongly suggest setting up 2-step verification. 2-step verification replaces your security questions with a requirement for both your password and a limited time code that is sent to you via find my iPhone notifications or SMS text to a mobile number. That code expires in 10 minutes or so, but no one can login to manage or change anything about your AppleID without both your password and a fresh code, even if doing it from trusted devices.

WIth 2-step verification you will also receive a 14 character alphanumeric recovery code. Keep that somewhere safe (if you use a Mac, put it in an keychain note). That code will always enable you to recover your AppleID if you yourself forget your password.
