Q: iTunes 12.5.1.21 - not showing iPhone

So I upgraded to ios10 and then upgraded iTunes tonight when my computer went on. Downloaded itunes version 12.5.1.21 on my Windows 10 laptop and with my iPhone attached it doesn't show the device in the left hand sidebar, or anywhere on the top toolbar, in fact it doesn't show the phone anywhere at all.

No sign of it at all. Once again iTunes melts my head in new ways as how can they approve an update that obviously doesn't show a device that has just upgraded to its new operating system.

Any input much appreciated as always

If your iOS device isn't showing in iTunes try the following:

Open Control Panel > Device Manager

    Plug in your device

Locate Universal Serial Bus Controllers > Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.

It is also possible the device may show under Imaging Devices, Portable Devices or Other Devices or as an MTB USB Device.

Right-click and select Update Driver Software...

Click Browse my computer for driver software

    Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers or

                    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers

Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer, or Have Disk

Click Apple Mobile Device USB Driver

    it is tested and verified

SERIOUSLY????? You copy and paste tt2's reply that appears on the exact same page as this a few posts up? If you are going to cite someone else's words then have the courtesy to credit them. And do you really think that tt2 would have posted those steps if he hadn't tested them?

    Not cool....

Oh, YEAH! I vote for the illustrated! At work, I often have to try to figure out how systems, on which I have never had any hands on, work. It is always soooooo much easier, and stays in my brain sooooo much better if I am provided with screenshots showing me the flow.

Let me know when this is out there! In the meantime, I bookmarked the "illustrated" thread!

Time to update your bookmark. Please use iOS device not showing in iTunes for Windows instead.

I ran into this same issue and resolved the problem.  For transparency sake I am a Microsoft employee of 15 years.

For background, I have an iPhone 7+, 6+, 5, iPad 4 x2, and iPad Mini 1 x2.  (I have a big family ).  I also have iTunes installed on 5 PCs running the latest Windows 10 versions.  Now, in iTunes 12.4.x or lower all devices are detected regardless of i-device type.  As soon as I upgraded to iTunes 12.5+ none of my systems would detect an attached i-device regardless of type.  Windows 10 would detect the device and allow me to browse photos, however iTunes still would not.

    To resolve the issue:

First: Uninstall all Apple applications from your system.  This includes iTunes, iCloud, Bonjour, Apple auto-update, Apple Mobile device support... everything.

    Next: reboot

Then: Go to the following locations and delete the apple folders:

              C:\users\"your name or account"\program data\Local\Apple

              C:\users\"your name or account"\program data\Roaming\Apple

              C:\Windows\System\Common Files\Apple

              C:\Windows\System32\Common Files\Apple

    Then: Reboot

Finally: Reinstall the latest iTines 12.5+ and everything should work just fine.

I hope this really helps; many may realize that attempting to update the USB driver in Windows 10 is impossible given Apple provides an unsigned driver version.  If you have any questions hit me up on PM at switcher3@msn.com

Forget the MS/Apple war, we live in a mutually beneficial ecosystem now and I will gladly help my Apple brethren and Sisters out.

    Cheers All!

I had this problem and i found a solution online that worked for me (6s 64g/ win 10/ itunes 12.5.1.21)

    1. Right click (my computer) then click (Manage)

    2. On the left click (Device manager)

    3. Under (portable devices) look for (Apple iphone) and right click and choose (update driver software)

    4. Click (Browse for driver software on my computer) and set the location to (C:\Program Files) and hit NEXT

New Drivers will install on your computer and then itunes should now be waiting for you to trust computer from your iphone

hope this helps guys and thank you
