POP outgoing mail

Just recently Mediacom made changes to their email server, and I can no longer send emails from my MAC G3.

But it can still receive incoming mail.

Although I have newer computers and iPads, the old G3 is better at several things than any of the newer ones. I use it in FileMaker for invoices and check books, and MacDraw (my favorite drawing program) for designing speaker boxes, schematics, and room layouts.

However, if I can't send out emails, it becomes nearly worthless.

OS8 will not support newer browsers, and Netscape will not work with web mail pages.

Q? Am I finally squeezed out of my old MAC, or is there a way to work around ?

POP does is an incoming mail standard. What you need is the SMTP outgoing mail. Eudora Lite was available for Mac OS 8 and was very good at handling SMTP. It is not called iOS 8 back in the days of the G3. iOS is for iPads, iPod Touch, and iPhone. You might need to use authentication for the outgoing mail server, which usually means using your full e-mail address as the username, and the the password as the normal password for your e-mail address when logging into the SMTP server. You may need to get the settings by reading their website at a library computer and then bringing them over to your home computer. Be sure to note the ports, as these may have changed on incoming and outgoing mail server.

POP generally is used for storing mail on your computer, and not Mediacom. If going in via their website, it is usually sitting at Mediacom. IMAP is often better than POP at handling such accounts if you want them continued to be stored on their website when you go to a library or work computer.

Filemaker is available for newer Macs, and MacDraw has been supplanted by Eazydraw. For more on migration for newer formats, see this tip: http://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2522

That might help. I might be starting to understand.

The term POP, Post Office Protocol, was brought up by chat person at Mediacom. Shows what they know.

SInce incoming mail still works just fine.

I Will need a good sleep, then tackle it again.

Also look into EazyDraw.

I have newer versions of FileMaker that are both MAC and Windows.

(Files work on both without converting)

Note the ports . . . . That will be the trick won't it ?

SMTP ??? Eudora Lite ?? Sounds like I have my work cut out for me.

Yes, I do know OS from iOS, I am on iPad now for convenience.
