Q: AppleTV Screensaver - Number of Photos

Hello

I have a shared photo album on iCloud with over 2500 photos in it. They are all scaled down to around 1920x1440.

It seems AppleTV plays less than 50 of the photos. ...and I have the 64GB AppleTV with plenty of space.

The same album plays on my Mac Screensaver and seems to use all of the photos.

Is there a way to use the entire shared album?

Thank you
Cooch

Only a small amount of space is used for the screensaver to temporarily cache photos, typically around 100 but can vary based on resolution. The ATV is primarily a streaming device with the space only used for storing apps.

If you want to view your full album you can create a slideshow

I know that was the case with the version 3 Apple TV. I thought for sure once they offered 32GB and 64GB version 4, this would be greatly improved.

UPDATE: Since updating to tvOS 10.0, the photo screensaver is now showing many more photos. Has to be in the hundreds, if not more. Much improved!

When I have people over and just doing things around the house, I like to run my music playlist from an old iMac to my three Apple TVs and two AirPort Express (for my outdoor speakers). The slideshow playing during the music is great, and very entertaining for my family & guests. When it would play under 50 photos, it got boring quickly.

I'd love the option to show as many photos as I like, and would gladly give up the hard drive space for this.

I'd love to know the official stance on this update, so I know it's limitations.

The same is the case with the 4th Gen. It is still a streaming device, the HD space is primarily for apps and caching. Using the slideshow function will allow for viewing all photos in album. I have not had a chance to test after the update. Since we are all users here we can't give an official answer, you would have to contact Apple.

I am using an iCloud Shared Album, I I assume it's streaming. Since the past version of tvOS kept showing the same batch of photos over and over, I assume it caches them somewhere on the device. Now this it is showing many more photos, it must be either caching more, working live off the streaming or downloading copies to the heard drive, no?

    They are temporarily cached
