Q: iPhone won't sync with iTunes after iOS 10 update - September 2016

I updated my iPhone 6 with the newest iOS 10 software. When I plug my phone into my macbook it says "iTunes could not connect to the iPhone “Katie's iPhone” because an invalid response was received from the device. I have updated my macbook and iTunes, restarted all devices, tried different usb ports etc. Is anyone else having this problem?

Reset didn't work for me. My set up: iPhone 6S, ios 10.0.2, iMac OS X version 10.6.8, iTunes 11.4. I'm now in complete limbo. The iMac won't recognize the reset iPhone 6S (I don't use iCloud to sync the iPhone 6S). I can do a restore via iCloud but since I have multiple iPhones, my only choice is my child's iPhone 4S.

Many hours later on the day I discovered my iPhone 6 would not sync with either iTunes OR iPhotos here is the resolution: older iMacs and Macbook Pros need to update from OS X version 10.6.8 (or whichever version you have) to El Capitan. Once you do this, newer versions of iTunes, iMovie, Photos (which replaces iPhoto) and all other apps are then automatically updated. In my case, since I had 'reset' my iPhone this caused me an additional step of having to restore from my last backup; thankfully, that was only 10 days ago. So I only lost 10 days worth of photos and videos. IF I hadn't reset my phone, I don't think I would have lost those 10 days worth of photos.

All of the above was verified after spending 30 minutes on the phone with Apple's Support phone line. The migration of my photos from iPhoto to Photos is still going on and I'm guessing it'll take 1-2 hours.

I'm now able to sync my iPhone 6 with my iMac running El Capitan. There was no cost to upgrade in my case the Mac's iOS and no cost for Apple Support. I had to be given a special code to find El Capitan in the App Store since you can't just search for and find it.

I had the same issue and it was driving me crazy.  I was able to get my music to sync by turning on "Sync with this iPhone over wifi".

    Hi,

I was having the same issue on my devices updated to iOS 10. iOS 10 works best with the latest iTunes sofware 12.5.1, Windows 7 or higher and Mac El Capitan or higher. Once I updated all my software and iTunes, issue was resolved.

    Hope this helps!

    Hello,

Looks like your Software 10.7.5 and iTunes 12.2.2 is not compatible with iOS 10. You would need Mac 10.11 (El Capitan or higher) and iTunes best on 12.5.1. As of today, El Capitan may not be available on your Mac, but may be available for macOS Sierra, which will be great!
