Q: GarageBand was not able to install the new sounds

I'm running GarageBand 10.1.2 & OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 on a Macbook Pro Retina 13" (2016).

A couple of weeks ago I installed the additional drummers without any issues. I noticed, though, that many of the sounds in the sound library had a download icon beside them; so I went to the GarageBand menu, option "Sound Library / Download All Available Sounds" and they started to download right away. Most of them did install fine (and are still usable), but at some point the download stopped and a window showed up with the message "GarageBand was not able to install the new sounds. Close and re-open GarageBand to download and install them again."

Since then, every time I open GarageBand, the download resumes automatically but after some minutes I get the same annoying message.

I've searched the internet and tried all the following actions without any success:

1) Closed and re-opened GarageBand

2) Restarted the system

3) Deleted the folder "/private/var/folders/lq/nb_0wt4d1zq5rs933745flww0000gn" and all of its contents

4) Deleted the folder "user/Library/Caches" and all of its contents

5) Installed the latest version of Oracle Java (version 8 update 101 - build 1.8.0_101-b13)

I still experience the same frustrating dead lock when I open GarageBand (download starts and after some time it stops and the error message shows up again... and again).

I've included some screen shots below on this post that illustrate the issue.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide me!

Just to be sure - you have enough free storage to install all new sounds? The GarageBand Instrument Library alone has 14GB on my Mac.

Before you try to install the sounds again launch the Console application and look for diagnostic messages in the Console, when GarageBand is giving the error message.  Are there any clues, any messages related to GarageBand in the Console Window?

Sometimes third part applications or incompatible system additions could be  causing this kind of problem, also firewalls and antivirus software, eg., Little Snitch or Kaperski. If you have any of these installed, disable it before trying to download the software.

To prevent non-standard system extensions from interfering, restart the Mac in Safe Mode, before you try to install again, see:   Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support

    Thanks for your reply léonie!

I contacted Apple Support and they helped me solved this issue. To my surprise, the problem was caused by my home wifi Internet connection. What makes this even more weird is that I've installed many other pieces of software over this connection without any issues.

Anyway, I connected my Macbook through my cell phone 3G connection and I could finally download and install all the sounds and loops.

    Regards

That is really surprising.  Thanks for letting us know of this solution.
