pages file sent with mail becomes folder. Fix?

My wife often sends me Pages files as part of our work from her iPad to my MacBook pro. They arrive as a folder instead of a Pages file. However, they arrive to my iPad Pro and iPhone 6 plus as Pages files. A work around is to forward them from my iPad or iPhone to my MacBook Pro which then arrive as Pages files. The folder is pretty much useless. It contains the following: Index folder, Metadata folder, preview-micro.jpg, preview-web.jpg, preview.jpg. There are various items inside the Index and Metadata folders, but there is no way for me to open any of it in Pages. Any idea what is going on and how to fix this? I am running macOS Sierra on my MacBook Pro and iOS10 on my other devices. My wife I believe is still on iOS 9. This started while I was on the public beta for Sierra. I am trying here before providing feedback to Apple.

How are you sharing your pages file? Are you "sharing" within the app?

Is she doing so within the application, or is she simply attaching it to an email?

How is she doing this from "Mac Mail" when she has an iPad?

She sends them from within the app with the sharing icon. I encourage her to Airdrop it to me instead, but I am not always around at the same time, so she mails it to me.

It could be a operating system compatibility issue, but this should not happen. Next time, try exporting as Word before sending, and see if anything changes.

Is this to see if the word file changes to a folder as well? I agree that this should not happen. Unfortunately my wife just took her iPad with her, so I can't test it till tonight, Japan standard time.

Yes, this would be to test is the Word file will also be converted to a folder.

Is this correct?

(wife) iPad to iPad - Good

(wife) iPad to iPhone - Good

(wife) iPad to Mac - Bad

(you) iPad Fwd to Mac - Good

Make sure you are running the latest version of pages on your Mac (v.5.6.2 - new update on 9/20/16 PST)

Since you were fine until MacOS Beta, updating your wife's iPad to iOS 10 may fix the issue.

You know what. I have to delete this post, if possible. Sierra hasn't been released. I mistook the iOS Release date for the Sierra release. I am a public beta tester, but I thought Sierra was released at the same time as iOS this week. Oops. This is a Beta feedback issue. My mistake. I can't be talking about this as of yet. Thanks for your help, TheExplosiveCow. BTW, Yes to everything above.
