Oct 10, 2016 12:07 PM in response to Zoro64by dunnypop,The problem with Apple is that they remove features and they'll never bring it back... this was one of the key features I used, and I also use the iTunes DJ (which never came back). This might be it as I stopped using airplay and the only thing that kept me from jumping away from iphone is itunes.

they will only act if they get lots or poor feedback

Oct 11, 2016 3:11 PM in response to Zoro64by markpburnett,Let's hope it's not my overlooking something here, but OK Apple; you've removed the iPhone Music Player's five star rating ability for IOS 10 (bonehead certainly, since there are MANY users leveraging this feature for many years) -- and in 'ratings' place, you've left us with the two choice: "Dislike" and "Love".
Problem is; for smart playlist logic in iTunes on PC, I'm not finding a way to include "Dislike" as a part of the logic to manage music selection and since stars are no longer assignable when they should be; how are you supporting other than your Apple Music subscribers?
Friends at Apple, I'd really appreciate knowing what I'm missing here -- of if indeed you've missed some coordination between what your iPhone product enables and your non-mobile application accommodates.

Oct 11, 2016 9:13 PM in response to Zoro64by ziptone,I "heart-not" the deprecation of the star rating system.
It looks like Apple is systematically removing the star rating system from all it's products. iOS_8.4 removed stars from iBooks and Podcasts
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7116129?language=en
"Very frustration that Apple has done this."
The "upgrade" from iPhotos to Photos removed star ratings and placed a text string in the metadata.
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6990062?language=en
"I have years worth of photos star rated and that's how I organize my smart albums."
Now iOS_10.0.2 has neutered "Music on iOS" as well.
If you agree don't forget to post to "Product Feedback" http://www.apple.com/feedback/
In Product Feedback "apple-music" should be the music rental service, however it appears to be the best feedback category. The drop down boxes cover "library", "radio", and other appropriate subjects.

Note: In feedback macOS is listed as a macOS App! No wonder apple's new campus is a big circle!

Oct 12, 2016 11:58 AM in response to Zoro64by Amighty,The Cesium App has been improved in response to this de-programming choice by Apple. It works almost exactly like the old iOS 9 music app, only the Up Next Queue is a little less intuitive. There are other things that are actual improvements though, like the ability to see other track info. You can change star ratings and that info will propagate into iTunes and smart playlists

Oct 14, 2016 6:09 PM in response to Zoro64by M.A.Stough,I love helping developers. So I bought Cesium. With that said, I'm so terribly disappointed with Apple's direction with iOS 10's Music App. Just the loss of star ratings alone is egregious. There is no the way to state it. The company that revolutionized the music industry with "a 1000 songs in your pocket" gave us a method straight away to selectively rate our music...yes, OUR MUSIC. Now, 10 so years later in iOS 10, we get it taken away from us. Like so many other take-aways that Apple orchestrated over the years, I'm left wondering, "Who do they listen to?" I pretty certain it is NOT paying customers, it must be all the customers they hope to yet gain. So much for loyalty.

Oct 14, 2016 8:07 PM in response to M.A.Stoughby Amighty,It really is a baffling decision... unless they are deliberately making the Music App a pain to use without subscribing to Apple Music. I might be tempted to subscribe if it was integrated benevolently, but this almost seems sinister and makes me resent the service. Like you, I've been using iTunes since the beginning and have meticulously rated my library. It's a personal affront that they would remove this feature when it worked so well in all the previous versions. Who decided this was a good idea? Does anyone on the program design team actually use the app? Even the revisions to Up Next make you wonder.

Oct 17, 2016 12:53 PM in response to Zoro64by spinoza9,Totally agree. We need the star rating back ASAP. Decade of sorting using my rating system. Can't be recreated.

Oct 17, 2016 12:56 PM in response to Amightyby spinoza9,Bsides being upset that the star rating was taken away (better be put back if I'm going to keep my iTunes subscription), it is time that iTunes capabilities catch up with the soriting and file creating capabilities on the Mac. I do most of my listening on the iPad. Why should I have to go to my Mac to work on my "data" for my music? Does not make sense.
-
Oct 17, 2016 2:14 PM in response to spinoza9by Amighty,I agree - it's annoying to not be able to change data/info. It seems to be a left-over from the old days when people curated their own music and were given the respect of being capable of managing their own library. At least you can see it all in Cesium app.

Oct 17, 2016 4:29 PM in response to Zoro64by hidden72,If all we get is a binary 0/1 rating for songs, then I'll have to use my binary selection of 0/1 to look at a mobile platform other than Apple.
