Oct 18, 2016 1:46 AM in response to Zoro64by kompilat,Another workaround for the missing star rating would be smart playlists. You can add songs to a simple playlist named "3 stars", "4 stars", ... From there you create smart playlists just as before. Unfortunately iCloud doesn't sync playlists which contain other playlists. Therefore this trick will only work in iTunes. From there you could create a "dumb" copy of this smart playlist, which gets synced. But you have to re-do this process every time you change ratings or add/delete songs.
This does not make my life easier. It just a dumb move by Apple.

Oct 18, 2016 6:23 AM in response to Zoro64by zickyls,I also want it back, I have years of ratings in my library and I really want to be able to do it on my phone. Besides, the only reason I chose apple music over spotify is that I could create smart list based on my ratings...

Oct 18, 2016 9:35 AM in response to Zoro64by Werner s,I am utterly disappointed!! I want the star rating back!
Spent 10 and more years to rate my Music (appr. 30.000 titles) from 0 to 5 stars - use these ratings to apply and categorize inteligent playlists, correct ratings on iphone while using it as a musicplayer. Can't use it anymore - horrific!
This might be a reason for not buying an Iphone anymore.... and actually itunes is the only reason using Apple products and not android systems...
And no, I don't want to use Siri as a workaround
Sorry Apple but this is an absolute nonsens!

Oct 18, 2016 3:25 PM in response to bersigby markpburnett,I'm afraid not. IOS is currently at10.0.2 and the star rating on the IOS music player is still gone. Here's hoping this was an oversight and will return as soon as Apple reads one or more of what must be thousands of posts relating to this bone headed omission.

Oct 18, 2016 3:49 PM in response to Zoro64by ziptone,I have decided to down grade back to 9.3.5 Mostly because "Music App on iOS" is pointless with out stars. But also to reduce wear and tear on the mechanical "Home" button. If the "Home" button fails it is a HUGE problem.

Oct 19, 2016 6:00 PM in response to benborkby KepaOnline,@benbork - the problem is that Apple seems intent on removing it altogether... for now it is OK that there's a third party app to do this rating... what happens when Apple drops support from iTunes? We all still need to let Apple know that this is *way* more important than something that can be delegated to a third party app hack.

Oct 19, 2016 6:02 PM in response to ziptoneby KepaOnline,@ziptone - please let me know how to downgrade to iOS 9.3.5 as I would also like to do this... I've found blog posts etc. that explain how to do it but I'd like someone to actually confirm that they've tried this and it works. Thanks!

Oct 19, 2016 8:02 PM in response to KepaOnlineby Amighty,I downgraded on day one. Download the signed .ipsw file and restore. It was basically easy but it takes a while to reload everything.

Oct 20, 2016 6:56 AM in response to Zoro64by polynomiac,I thought apple might've added it back in by now, or at least there would be a rumour they would. I too have thousands of star rated music that has taken years to build up.
And without being able to easily view and edit the rating like before, after a month it's getting frustrating ... it feels the music app isn't working properly.
How do we let apple know there are loads of people who need this back?

Oct 20, 2016 7:24 AM in response to Zoro64by MG1981,There is no point moaning about it on this forum, you need to post your feedback here - www.apple.com/feedback/apple-music.html
Unless they get lots of feedback they won't think it is an issue

Oct 21, 2016 4:06 AM in response to Zoro64by screamman1,One of the things I do to circumvent this horrendously irritating update issue is use my notes app. I don't do it often. I try to organize my music such that new music I anticipate I will need to rate I will listen to at home on iTunes where I'll have access to my star ratings, and other music that I don't need to rate I will use for "on-the-go". However, if I am on the go and want to rate my music with the 1-5 rating system, although this is quite annoying, here's what I do...and I told apple that this is what I do when I sent them my feedback telling them how much I loathe their removal of the star rating system and how what used to be a two-step process is now an eight-step process.
Basically as I listen to a song and decide how many stars to rate it, I minimize the music app. Then I open my notes app, start a new note, and type a number (1-5) as text. I minimize the notes app and re-open the music app. When I get to the next song, I repeat the process: minimize music, open notes, type a text number of 1-5, minimize notes, open music, etc. Then when I get home, I transfer the long string of number ratings (3,5,5,4,2,4,4,4,5,3...) to iTunes. It's annoying as ****, but in a pinch that's what I do.
But yeah, I sent them feedback. I have nearly 30,000 songs and have rated nearly all of them and do so all the time for work and leisure purposes. I cannot imagine how difficult it would be to simply reinstate the system on the next update. It's simple tap-screen and stars...

Oct 21, 2016 7:40 AM in response to screamman1by Amighty,That sounds truly horrible. Download the Cesium app and you can pretend you are using the iOS9 music app and rate songs the old way.
