Tethering broken in iOS 10?

Hi,

I just upgraded to iOS 10. When connecting to mobile hotspot using bluetooth, the connection works OK but is dropped after a few seconds when the iPhone's screen is going to standby.

WiFi Hotspot seems to be working, but I cannot connect to my VPN from my notebook. Connection fails then my notebook tries to verify my credentials.

I have another iPhone that is still running iOS 9 and everything works without problems there. I also tried using different carriers which did not have any effect at all.

It seems that Mobile Hotspot is severely broken in iOS 10. Can anybody confirm this or make any suggestions how to fix it? I am getting really desperate here.

Thanks.

I also have noticed a problem with the hotspot. I currently use 2 phones a S7 edge as my main and am testing Iphone 7 to see if I can move over. But when I connect my macbook pro to my Iphone 7's personal hotspot it works great for around 10 mins or less then it just turns off. I unlock phone and and can turn it back on but it should not turn off in the first place. Im not sure if this is some sort of battery saving bug or what but it is fairly lame that I cant use such a simple feature reliably for an extended period of time.

Has anyone discovered a tip or fix for this issue. I have thought for months now that my iPhone6s+ is broken. I can connect to the hotspot from my HP laptop but the connection is in and out of "no internet", and I can not connect to my Work VPN. I just spoke with an ATT technician about it last week, she told me to change my phones name to anything else. I did this and instantly the laptop was able to connect and stay connected. Worked for 24 hours an now the phone behaves as described above again. I've tried many things, nothing works. Thoughts?

I should add an important fact that I forgot in the original post. I can connect to the internet and VPN with the same laptop through 2 different Samsung Tablets and my wife's Samsung Galaxy phone as well. Instant connection, not fuss, no issues. Process of elimination tells me that iOS tethering is to blame. I would think that this is a big enough issue to fix with a minor upgrade, but Apple might be focusing all attention on iOS 11 in the fall. No problem, I'll just continue to have this issue without any help :-(

Wanted to comment on this issue. I have an iPad and iPhone both of which had a late version of iOS 9.x.x. At that time the Hotspot WIFI worked great between them and with my Dell laptop, an Apple TV 4, and an LG Smart TV. After upgrading to an early iOS 10.x.x and now 10.3.2 it is IMPOSSIBLE to get any of those devices to work with Hotstop WIFI !!! I have tried every suggested fix I have found on the Web with no success at all. I have found, fortunately, that my laptop will work with the Bluetooth hotspot, although the connect speed is rather slow compared to the WIFI. Truly hope Apple has fixed this issue in iOS 11 !!!

Hi lingering presence!

I see that you're having issues with your iPhone's Personal Hotspot feature after updating to iOS 10. I know it's important to have Personal Hotspot working correctly, and I'm happy to offer some help. Please try all of the relevant steps from this article, there is a section that addresses Bluetooth connections specifically:

Hi,

thanks for your reply. I already tried all of these suggestions.

I can connect without problems. I can even use tethering over bluetooth for some time. However as soon as the screen gets locked, the connection is cut most of the time.

WiFi connections are not affected - I can lock and unlock my phone as much as I like. But with bluetooth the connection is lost when I lock the screen.

Hi,

Just to keep this thread alive: Aside from dropping the Bluetooth connection, Personal Hotspots gets deactivated altogether from time to time.

After activating Hotspot in settings / mobile network / personal hotspot, "Personal Hotspot" is added to the settings menu. From time to time, this gets reset to "off" so "Personal Hotspot" is no longer in settings menu and bluetooth connection cannot be established. You have to go to "mobile network" and reactivate it again.

Is this another problem that no one else is having? 😐

I am getting the feeling that something went horribly wrong during iOS 10 upgrade on my device.

Regards

I'm having similar issues. Using the Guide linked previously, I was finally able to get an IOS 10 equipped iPhone 6s Plus to use a wifi hotspot. However, it will not see the same hotspot via bluetooth. An ios 9.3.4 equipped iPod can connect to the bluetooth hotspot so we know it's working. The iPhone 6s Plus can pair with bluetooth accessories but fails to see the hotspot via bluetooth. I have gone so far as to reset the network settings. Can't invest any more time trying to get Crapple products to work as advertised. Will settle for the sub-standard wifi hotspot. Oh, if Mr. Jobs was still alive...
