Q: Watch os3 series 1 dead battery by afternoon

Hello,

I've updated my Apple Watch Series 1 to use watchOS 3, the process took a fair while, the Watch app on my iPhone 6 said it was downloading "20 minutes remaining" then "2 days remaining", then my watch died around 3pm (watchOS 2.x), I thought because it kept trying to poll it or something it just died.. fine no worries. Plugged it in when I got home, charged and started the update again, tried to add some apps to the watch while it was updating but they failed, os update eventually went through.

Then first day of using watchOS 3 my battery died again, roughly around the same time as when I tried to update it, baring in mind it usually lasts all day with around 40-50% depending on if I went to the gym that morning.

Now this morning, from full 100% charge its down to 90% within the first hour, and now 80% an hour and half later.

I've removed all the apps from the dock, restart etc to see if that helps, no luck.

Anyone getting the same issues?

Cheers,

Sam

    Trying it right now!

Was on the phone with Apple, and we were running Battery Diagnostics, which of course crashed

Let you know how it goes

That did not work, but as a last resort, I removed the phone from the case

    I use a X-Doria case with a metal edge

    https://xdorialife.com/products/defense-shield-iphone-7-plus-case?variant=199483 23141

The diagnostic app now works, and so do the fitness apps

If this works (without the metal frame), the case was the cause

    Until tomorrow

So an update for me and maybe it will help others.

I have an original Apple Watch- and as my post above said I was dead every day in a few hours after the update.

What I think I noticed was that my battery would take a dive whenever my watch wasn't right next to my phone- phone in the kitchen and I'm spending quality time far away from the kitchen.  Both are connected to wifi, but well beyond any BT connections.  I noticed this because one day my routine was very different and I had the phone with me all the time- and no drastic battery loss, at home- then next day back at home with old routine- boom, battery crash.

What I "solved" it by turning off background refresh- but not on an app by app basis, even if I turned all of them off I got the battery crash- I had to turn off backround refresh completely at the top.  Now my watch is back to its old self- super laggy app launch and all.. but at least it has value once again (5 hours of battery basically IMO made it useless).

Not sure if this will help anyone.. just thought I would share.

I had basically the same situation and after reading this post, I uninstalled  couple of apps and then turned off the background app refresh restarted the watch.

today from a 9:30am start off the charger to 9:00pm, nearly 12 hours and its only down to 72% way better the the previous day which was down to 30% after less time and less usage.

    thanks

this is an update and a response.

Did you try both resets? It seemed to work for me. It has been on my wrist for 2 hours now and I've lost only 3% of my battery.

My watch is functioning not only with normal battery functions, but better than what I used to have.

EVERYONE RESET THEIR NETWORK SETTINFS AND THEN ALL OF YOUR SETTINGS.

Tried the reset, and I was still draining the battery

Removed the metal from the case, and that did the trick

I have only used 30% of the battery (100% to 70%) in 10 hours

My issue was the metal in the case interfering with the bluetooth antenna

Apparently, they moved it in the iPhone 7+, and a 6+ case manufacturers do not know

All of the apps were reloaded, along with background app refresh and raise to wake the morning, with no impact to battery life

I am back to better than before

    Update

Just got off of the phone with Apple again

The watch was working fine Friday night and all of Saturday, but started draining the battery again today

Of of the charger for 3 hours, and I lost 25% of the battery

It progressively gets worse (3% first hour, 9% second, and 12 the third) and I am basically doing nothing

All attempts at diagnostics by Apple failed

Hmmm ...  for me, I'm not sure what's going on, because the Apple Watch Series 0 (so to say), running OS 3, had excellent battery life, with 50 to 60% remaining after 12 to 16 hours at the hospital.  As soon as I switched to Apple Watch Series 1, running exactly the same apps in the same configuration, I was lucky to make 15% of the battery by the time I got home.

    Hello.

I got my Apple watch series 1 42mm on 7/10/16.

I also have a originaliteit 42mm Apple watch with watchOS 3 running on it.

Most of the time its possible to get 2 full days with the originaliteit Apple watch.

The first week with the series 1 was a disaster. Sometimes 4-5 procent drain per hour. (Only wearing, not using apps)

Now, its unbelievable. Yesterday morning is got my watch offf the charger around 8:00 in the morning.

I noticed something unbelievable, check okt the poster 2pics. We are now a full day later.
