Q: wifi dropping out after IOS10 update

I have noticed that my wifi access drops out for no reason.  When I try to access anything that uses the web I get messages no network access or safari cannot open page.  This has occurred on both my IPAD Pro and IPAD Air.

Other devices can access the net when the fault occurs on one.  Has anyone else encountered this?

Take a look at this Apple Support article:

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204051

    Reset your network settings.

Settings - General - Reset - Reset Network Settings

Reset your device. This won't delete your data stored on the phone.

    • Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button
    • Press and hold on the Home button
    • Keep holding both buttons until the display turns off and back on with Apple logo on it.

Alternatively, you may go to Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings

Hi. Try the steps suggested by Luco above. Also restart your router. Then see how it works.

Same here.  My Macbook works great and my kids iphone 5c and 5s work fine, my wife and I have an iphone 6 and both are not connecting on WIFI.  I've done everything I found so far, reset network, reboot, etc.  If I turn wifi off and back on, it works for a few seconds then drops again.  It really looks to be specific to our iphone 6?  Software I guess because both phone did that at the same time.  It did it before the IOS10 update and after.

Hi. Could you describe your network configuration a little? Are you using static IP addresses for any devices? Do you know what your DHCP lease duration is? Are you using separate SSIDs for 2.4 and 5 GHz networks? Are you connecting to 2.4 or 5 GHz? When you connect to WiFi, can you see the settings filled in with IP address, DNS, etc.? How do they compare with the same data on a device that works?

It seems to be a bug, I've resorted to using Airplane Mode most of the time as that keeps it on.  Resetting Network and hard reboot don't fix it I find.

One thing that sometimes helps is to change the router WiFi encryption to WPA2-AES (CCMP) with no dual-mode or TKIP.  If you're not using that, it wouldn't hurt to try.

Thanks for the tip, will try that if Apple doesn't pickup on it soon.  All my friends are reporting exactly the same thing so they must know about it.

Router is already on thos settings. Have tried other suggestions w/exception of restarting router. Will do that when next it happens. Problem seems to occur after IPad is asleep for a few hours. Did not occur prior to IOS 10 upgrade, does not occur on MacBook Pro nor my wife's iPad which does not yet have iOS 10 (and likely won't until probl solved)

Since you say all your friends are reporting it, could it be a common router problem? What is the make and model of your WiFi router?

Hello paddler. You really ought to restart the router. It cleans out the tables and is the first step to solving network issues.

They're all over this city, country even... and elsewhere.   My router is a brand new Asus RT-AC68U.   My wireless is set to WPA-2 AES encryption.

I Will do that. However, while my previous Linksys router required almost weekly reboots, my Netgear router has been problem free for two years, only gettingt the occasional reboot from power outages.

In addition to disconnecting what else is new with IOS 10 is that the IPad doesn't remember the network. I need to reenter the network name and password. When I had network problems in the past, the IPad would search for the network.

That simple move seems to have fixed it for me at least.  I rebooted my router and presto - WiFi stays on !!

    Thanks
