can we use logic pro x for commercial use

was wondering, i want to get logic pro x to use within my small business, I’m a producer and engineer, but when i look at apples terms and conditions it makes me think i cant use it for my business, it says something about using it only for personal, non commercial use, and I’m wondering whats up with that, i mean who would use logic pro x if it was only supported for non commercial use, i see this in a lot of apples terms, probably in final cut as well, what does it all mean,

2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions.

A. Mac App Store License. Subject to the terms and conditions of this License and as permitted by the Mac App Store Product Usage Rules set forth in the Mac App Store Terms and Conditions (http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/ww/) (“Usage Rules”), you are granted a limited, non-transferable, non-exclusive license:

ℹ to download, install, use and run for personal, non-commercial use, one (1) copy of the Apple Software directly on each Apple-branded computer running OS X (“Mac Computer”) that you own or control; and

(ii) if you are a commercial enterprise or educational institution, to download, install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software for use either: (a) by a single individual on each of the Mac Computer(s) that you own or control, or (b) by multiple individuals on a single shared Mac Computer that you own or control. For example, a single employee may use the Apple Software on both the employee’s desktop Mac Computer and laptop Mac Computer, or multiple students may serially use the Apple Software on a single Mac Computer located at a resource center or library.

Here is my understanding (I'm a user and not a lawyer).

The text basically explains a "single seat license". One download is restricted to a single Apple ID that you use to purchase the app. Although you can install it on multiple computers, only one person at a time can use it.

Of course, you can use the purchased Logic copy to produce your music and use it this way to make money with it (that's the purpose). The "non-commercial" aspect is that you don't make money of the software itself by selling it. I'm not sure if you are a professional studio for rent and Logic is part of the package. I guess it is ok as long as you have only one "use" at the time and not using Logic on your computer while the client is also using it in the studio.

Hope that helps

right i understand that concept, and even in terms it says we can use the loops and sounds to create our own musical works for commercial use royalty free, so how could you not be able to use a program for non commercial use and be able to create music for commercial use with it,.

i just wish it was clear in what things mean, when i look i terms and i see non commercial use, i usually don't use that software or find something else to use that states i can use for commercial use

i spoke to a apple rep in the pro apps department and he said, he was not sure but he said the same in regards to the single user thing,

i guess i wanted a more clear answer that gave me assurance for my usage, but i mean i see alot of studios on YouTube using logic pro and making video tutorials and alot of big name producers using it so i guess im ok. lol

Before Logic went all fuzzy friendly to entice Garageband users to upgrade... the splash screen used to say "For Professional Studio Use".

As far as I know that hasn't changed, you should be able to use it for a commercial studio without any problems. Logic is a part of Apple's "Professional Applications" series and I know that much of that software has been used by professionals in commercial situations for many years.

If anything, I think Apple would not want it to be used in a studio with multiple engineers using it day and night on one purchase, If you are the engineer of your own commercial studio, no problem.

Apple is a hardware company, unfortunately they don't even say much about people using pirated software as long as it sells hardware, (ie; computers) They give the OS away, Logic used to cost $999 when owned by emagic, Apple purchased it and charged $499, now it's $199.

well im the only person using it, i run my business by myself as of right now, but if i ever did expand, i know that i cant share my programs with others, so i get the concept of every user needs to have their own license, i look at apple differently then other programs and companies because i feel they have a different way of doing things, i have other music programs i know i can use it for my usage but with logic pro x i wanted to make sure,

wish the terms and conditions were more clear, i still feel uncomfortable about using it but i should be ok.

You need to read these clauses carefully: (Note: I'm not a lawyer either.)

This says that if you are using the application for personal, non-professional you can install the software on EACH Mac that you own and control. In other words, you can install and run it on as many Macs as you like as long as you 'own or control them;.

This says that if you are a business/edu institution, you can install and use the software either:

on all the Macs you own or control, but for use only by 1 person.

Or

You can install and run it on ONE mac which can be used by many people ( buy 1 person at a time)

You say that you are a commercial operation, so you would fall into the second category. As a "one man band", you can install it on all your Macs and run it, because only you will be using it.
