Q: Mail ver 9.3 (2134) and Rules Not Working

Firstly, I assume that any rules you create when Mail launches run automatically. You do not have to apply rules manually each time you load Mail. Assuming this, rules are not functioning as intended. No matter how I create rules, whether with or without junk mail filtering, If i use advance filtering, or add the condition "stop evaluating rules" which I read helps. I have a gmail account and I have turned both on and off spam filtering at my gmail account level. Rules simply do not work. Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

For Gmail accounts it's best to create your rules in Gmail's settings. Gmail is not regular IMAP. Gmail uses labels. A message can have multiple labels. In your browser this is only one message. However, in a Mail app, each label is a separate folder.

Log into your Gmail account in your browser to create your rules. Rules are called filters.

If you use Mail's rules then the messages will have to be synced back to the server causing a delay.

It's advised that you turn off Mail's junk filtering for Gmail accounts. Let Gmail's spam filtering take care of your spam.
