apple headphones only working with apple music after iOS 10

i use apple headphones. and as a music player i use sonic max pro (BBE).

before iOS 10, i could control everything with the headphone remote switches: play, forward, volume. when sonic max was open, it worked.

after iOS 10, it is different. sonic max does not react any more - which might be a problem within the app. BUT the remote always operates apple music, even when it is not open. pressing play always plays a song in apple

music etc. when sonic max is playing already, i even hear two songs at the same time.

does apple now restrict connectivity of remote to their own music app only? or do i miss something?
