remove the following from your computer, consult the developer of the products websites for instructions specific to mac OS X, do not simply "drag them to the trash" in many cases it does not remove these types of applications

philips.iokit

leapfrog

newwellnesssolutions.

crashplan

fitbit.

You do not have a memory problem, as you have lots of free RAM and your system has been up for a week.

Spotlight seems to be working hard.

You might try re-indexing Spotlight. This will take awhile to settle down, so start this before going to bed so it should be down by the next morning.

Your iMac is 7 years old. Assuming that is the original hard disk installed, it is possible that the disk is starting to generate lots of silent retries that can slow down disk access. Modern disks will automatically perform retires when it cannot read a sector, and may do hundreds making slight adjustments to the left/right track centering, and other electronic tricks at their disposal, before they give up. More often than not, they will succeed, but from the user's perspective, it starts to take a long time to complete. The disks do not report this retry activity to the host operating system, so they have nothing to report to you.

You might consider making a Genius Bar appointment at your local Apple store and having them do an extended evaluation of your system (this will be free), and mention your slow performance, and ask if it could be the disk drive.
