Q: iOS 10 update not appearing on iPad Air

When I go into my settings app on the iPad Air, it says I'm up-to-date with 9.3.5. There's no option to download iOS10.

When I plug my iPad into my mac, it downloads the update in iTunes but won't install because the macbook doesn't have anywhere near enough room to backup the iPad first. (Despite already being backed up on iCloud.)

So I'm stuck.

Is there a way to make the update appear on the iPad for over-the-air downloading? Or is there a way to install it from the macbook without backing up to the computer first?

Also, a while back I was enrolled in the public beta for new updates. Could that be causing problems with iOS 10 showing up?

Just guessing, but a restart never hurts. Hold Sleep and Home buttons until you see the Apple. Do you have enough free storage on the iPad? The incremental download is over a gig, and it probably expands to 2 or more, so you may need 5 or so free to do the update.

I had this issue on my iPad Air and using the details n8thegreatest provided along with Diana's reminder on how to restart the iPad, I was able to solve the issue. I also had been enrolled in the public beta and I believe that is what was preventing the upgrade.

    My steps:

    1. Settings
    2. General
    3. Profiles & Device Management
    4. iOS 9 Beta Software Profile (click on it and delete this profile)

You still won't have access to the iOS 10 download until after you restart the device. As Diana suggested, hold the home button and the sleep button both down until the apple logo appears (or until the screen goes blank... in which case power it back on).

Go see if iOS 10 is now available for download:

    1. Settings
    2. General
    3. Software Update

    Hope that helps others.
