Q: My MacBook Air went black and is now not responding. What do I do?

My MacBook Air was on and working. I left it open while I did something else and the screen went black, like it normally does. But when I moved the mouse and pushed done keys the screen didn't come back on. I thought it might be the battery so I plugged it in for a few hours and it still wouldn't turn on. The power cord turns green when I plug it in. I have tried holding down the power button for a long time, tried ho the shift, control, option, and power keys. I even tried shaking it. Nothing works. It doesn't make any sound.

Please can somebody help? I can't find an answer that has worked. Thank you.

    shut down

    disconnect ALL external devices

    reset the SMC

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

rest the PRAM (see same article)

    reboot into safe mode

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

    then reboot normally.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried those and still no response from my computer. I can't shut down the computer because it is not responding. I have tried resetting the SMC, but nothing happens. I can't start in safe mode because when I hold down the power button nothing happens. i can't reset PRAM for the same reason, but I did hold those keys even though my computer didn't turn on and still nothing happened. Any other suggestions?

if the device is in warranty apple will repair it free if they do not detect neglect (water, cracks, etc.)

if the device is out of warranty apple will examine it free then give you an estimate on cost

if going to the apple store is up on your to-do list with having a drunken pirate captain pull teeth from your mouth with a rusty pair of pliers disconnect the laptop from power cord and let it sit overnight before reconnecting in a dedicated wall socket, then turn to page 31!
