Q: Unable to automatically mount network drives without password prompt

Hi,

First of all, I'm using MacOS Sierra, but I don't think that there's a forum for that yet.

I have a mac mini that auto powers off and on every day, and basically sits there backing up files from multiple sources.

One thing I need it to do is to automatically mount a few folders on my NAS.

So far, I have tried:

  • Using Finder to use go -> Connect To Server, entering the mount point (tried with and without login credentials in the path), making sure that when the dialog comes up that I select the option to save the credentials in my keychain, then taking this desktop shortcut and dragging it into my login items
  • Using Automator
  • Using AppleScript
  • Making sure all applications can use these passwords in the keychain without prompting

All of these work in that the drive is mounted, but regardless of whether the username/password is in the connection string or not, and ensuring that the save password in keychain is set, every single time, I get a pop up asking me for the username/password. This is always correctly populated, and all I need to do is click the connect button, but this doesn't help on an unattended computer that reboots daily.

I was unable to get Apple Script to click the Connect Button.

Anyone else got this problem, or better still got a solution?

Thanks,

James

    G'day James

Your problem sounds a lot like mine. I have an old time capsule which I use to backup certain files on a weekly/monthly basis. I had tried doing what you have done (Automator, Apple Script, etc.) but then I discovered that I could add that "server" in the list of login items (System Preferences/Users & Groups/Login Options).  Prior to macOS Sierra it worked without a hitch however now I get the dialog box with my name and password entered with CONNECT highlighted. I click and the server mounts which is good but I want this to happen unattended.

This is, unfortunately, not a solution but login option might be something to try if you have not already done so.

    Hi Barholder,

Thanks for this. It's actually the login items that I'm currently trying at the moment, and it's not working...

    This is really annoying!
