Upgrading to iOS 10 breaks Save Image from emails

After upgrading to iOS 10, I can no longer tap and hold on an image received and displayed inside a Mail message to Save Image to my camera roll from a pop-up menu. Instead, it appears to only be able to save the text of the URL associated with the image. Ditto for images from websites in Safari.

This absolutely works on iPhone 6 so that is good as far as it goes. I imagine it works on any device that has the 3D Touch feature.Unfortunately Apple really needs to understand the concept of "if it ain't broke don't fix it". Even though this solution works if you have 3-D, I suspect is true they have broken it for everyone who does not.For those who do have the feature, I suspect many like me have had to waste at a great deal of time figuring out what the heck they have done. My reason for being With Apple for years has been I spent most of my time working and less time fiddling which was always the problem with PCs and windows.I have already abandoned my MacBook Pro for windows 10 because Apple is starting to look so much more like Microsoft and Google . If they keep this up I will probably move to android on the next pass since the only justification for paying apples exorbitant prices is because they used to be so much more efficient and add free.

I'm facing the same problem. My device is iPhone 5S 32GB with iOS 10.2.1(latest) Running on the device. Already in contact with Apple Customer Care. I never faced this problem on iOS 9 on this same device previously. The issue is with all mail accounts i have i.e. Yahoo, Zoho, Gmail, Hotmail, Personal Corporate Accounts & iCloud Mail too.

Steps Tried by me to solve the issue :

1) Configuring Mail Accounts Again

2) Erasing the iPhone and trying to check if it works

3) Hard Resetting my iPhone by Holding on Power & Home Button.

4) Hard Restoring the iPhone as advised by Apple Customer Care by connecting device to PC and re-installing the iOS and all other Applications.

None of the above 4 Attempts have solved my issue till today.

Your contention might have some merit if iPhones didn't have the screenshot feature which I use most of the time whenever I want to save a photo. iOS 10 has a special way to put a screenshot button on the screen so all you have to do is push it instead of having to clumsily push two buttons at the same time. On my iPhone 7 I usually just use screenshots to save my photos so please stop criticizing Apple over something like this.

I noticed this issue on my iPad today for the first time, whilst trying to copy images from a news website. I have an iPad 4 running the latest iOS software. The images were in a series of 15; scrolling through was via an arrow at the top of each image. I found that tapping and holding on the first image brought up the 'Save image' and 'Copy' options as usual - I successfully saved it to my Photos library. However, subsequent images didn't respond when I tapped and held. This has never happened to me before. The only workaround I found was as follows, which may have been alluded to already:

1) Tap and hold the image

2) Whilst keeping hold, access the 'Share' button at the top right of the screen (the box with an arrow coming out of it)

3) Press and hold the share button whilst keeping hold of the image

4) The menu options to Save or Copy should appear

Hope that helps.

Regret exceedingly to say THIS DOES NOT WORK. My sister in law's iPad purchased Dec. 2016/Jan.2017, running iOS 10.3.1, has failed to save photos embedded in gmail messages, today's most recent after several tries. Holding tap on embedded photo brings up banner of colored icons – Message, Mail, Add to Notes, Twitter, etc. – and banner of B/W icons – Quick Look, Save image (downward arrow into vertical rectangle), etc. Save image may be saving it somewhere but it is not in Photos. Quick Look brings up very similar two-level banner of choices, including Save image – again, tapping that may Save it somewhere, but not in Photos folder.

I have a new iPhone 7plus, and was frustrated because I could no longer save photos from emails into my phone's camera roll the same way I used to. Turns out I was just pressing the screen too hard:

1) go to the email with the photo(s) you want.

2) press very lightly on the first photo for a second or two.

A pop-up then shows two rows of icons...

The first row includes Message, Mail, Twitter, Add to Memo, etc.

The 2nd row includes Assign to Contact, Copy, Print, Add to iCloud Drive, etc.

3) Swipe left on this 2nd row, scrolling until you see Save Image, and Save (# of photos in the email) Images.

4) Tap on Save Image

Your photo is now saved to your camera roll.

The way to save pictures from email is to not push on screen or tap screen. Just lay finger lightly on photo for second or two. At that point a small box with arrow appears in bottom left corner of screen. When you tap that box it opens numerous options. One is save image

I found I just had to use lighter touch on screen than before. iPhone 7 10.3.3
