Q: Pages is not downward comparable with iMacs

Unbelievable!  I have a 27" iMac (2009 Version) and iTunes will not allow me to either upgrade my existing version or purchase a new version of Pages (I am not asking for a freebie).  After being on hold for about an hour the Apple Tech Support recommended I purchase MS Word because they don't see anyway I can load an updated version of Pages on my Apple Computer because it is more than a few years old.  I have run my business for 15 years on Apple products!  Now they suggest I change to MS because they can't get their act together.

    That is not true.

I have an equally old iMac on which I run several versions of OSX ranging from Snow Leopard through to the latest El Capitan.

I also run both Pages '09 v4.3 and Pages 5.6.2.

PS Don't think you are missing out on much with Pages 5.6.2. It is very much a downgrade, running on very few OSes and is incompatible with most everything as well as missing Ove 120 features and riddled with bugs.

Hmmm . . . You need to get a job in Apple Tech Support. They told me it would not work on my computer because it was so old.  It must be an iTunes problem.  When I try to download I get a message that it cannot be downloaded to this Apple ID. If I try to purchase the only option displayed is "install".  So I cannot install an upgrade or purchase a new version. As I said the Tech Support's solution was to swatch to MS Word. Never would have thought I would get that advice from Apple. But three different Tech Support worked on my question: it was 'kicked up to a. higher level".

What has iTunes to do with Pages for Mac?

You get Pages from the App Store.

As to working for Apple Support, I would find it difficult to dumb myself down enough.
