Sep 16, 2016 2:45 PM in response to jimfromocby Diana.McCall,Hi. Have you looked in the app store? There are several that can do this using the camera in the phone or iPad. Some also work on images in Photos.

Sep 16, 2016 2:57 PM in response to Diana.McCallby jimfromoc,I did try the App Store. There were a number of scanner apps for iPhone. What I didn't see was any specific language in the descriptions which said that the scanner app will display the info on the phone in human readable form. Is it implicit in all of these scanner apps that they do that?

Sep 16, 2016 5:24 PM in response to jimfromocby Diana.McCall,★HelpfulI think so. I got the most popular, and it does. Lets you copy the string so you could paste it into something else. Of course it wants to do a search for you. And throw up a couple of ads. But it does the job. The paid ones are probably more professional, and likely have websites with more info. It is a little awkward imaging a barcode with iPad, due to the size. A phone might be handier, but still nowhere near as convenient as a proper wand scanner. Depends what you want to use it for, and how intensively. I wouldn't want to inventory a grocery shelf with an iPad, that's for sure.

Sep 16, 2016 5:28 PM in response to Diana.McCallby jimfromoc,Thank you. An iPad would indeed be an awkward device for scanning lots of bar codes. My application is only an very occasional situation so hopefully the scanner you're using will work for me. What is the name of the bar code scanner you use? Thanks again.

Sep 16, 2016 5:56 PM in response to jimfromocby Diana.McCall,No particular recommendation here. I downloaded QR Scanner because it was on top in the app store, and had quite a few downloads. I'd want to review a few others before getting serious. And personally, I don't mind paying for a good app with no ads. QR does say that it will do a basic scan (no search, etc.) when off-line, so that kinda preempts tje ad thing.
