Q: Camera Roll pictures out of order in iOS 10

I just received my new iPhone 7 and after successfully restoring it from a backup of my iPhone 6, I noticed that all my photos in the Camera Roll are out of sync. I realize they are supposed to be in chronological order from when they were taken, but they are very mixed up...some photos/videos that I took back in February. I have always restored my new device from a backup whenever I've upgraded to the latest iPhone and have NEVER had this problem.

I have read through some of posts on here where people have had this issue or something like it in the past, but nothing has been listed as a direct fix for this problem. I have tried anything and everything I have found online or here as a way around fixing the out-of-order, and nothing has worked.

This is extremely frustrating! Would someone please help?!

I have the new iPhone 7 - 256Gb Black, running iOS 10.0.1.

Thanks!

iPhone 7, iOS 10.0.1

I just realized that I probably posted this in the wrong support community. For some reason "iPhotos for OS" wasn't showing up when I first submitted the post, and therefore posted it to "iPhone Hardware."

I am not able to edit this post anymore for some reason. Anyone know how to do that? Or move my post to the correct community? Thanks so much!

Same problem with me... updated iPhone 6s to iOS 10.0.1 - fine, no problems. Back-up and restore to new iPhone 7 and the camera roll seems to have the first half photos now after the second half photos . Updated to 10.0.1, issue remains. Tried restoring from backup again, but issue remains.

The 'moments' album within the photos app seems to be okay, so I could probably live with this, but it is annoying. All the dates of the photos appear to be okay, so it seems to just be a sorting issue.

and to supplement, all current messaging app only allows you to choose photos to send from "camera roll", but not collection. this causes a huge trouble for user to actually send through photos to their friends and family as normally the most recent photo always show up first...a major letdown!

Actually this is not quite true. When you have selected to add a photo, swipe from left to right and it gives you the option to select a photo/pic from another album. Another little hidden trick in iOS 10

For me this issue is annoying but bearable. The metadata for the photos still appears to be there so it will most likely be fixed sometime in the future, remember it is only day 3 of iPh7.

thanks for this! but this trick doesn't quite work on other 3rd prty messaging apps such as whatsapp, line etc. i hope they come out with the fix soon because it really impacts the whole user experience for iphone users.

Have to agree, extremely frustrating with instagram too when trying to add your newest photos and they're impossible to find from being saved so far back in the roll

    Hi there,

I also have the same problem. Camera roll on my iPhone 7 (iOS 10.0.1) is totally mixed up and not in chronological order anymore. But the pictures in moments are displayed correctly. I restored this iPhone 7 from my iPhone 5s backup (also iOS 10.0.1) via iTunes (12.5.1 on OS X Yosemite 10.10.5). However, when I updated my iPhone SE from iOS 9.3.5 to iOS 10.0.1 via iTunes (12.5.1 on Windows 7 Pro SP 1) there wasn't any problem with the camera roll (and moments), it's fine and in chronological order.

Hope, there'll be a fix to this issue soon!

new photos taken by iphone 7 will be displayed at the bottom of camera roll album normally in chronological order. so it seems like a bug or issue with back up photos only, but it's frustrating still.  fix fix fix please!!!!

I too have this same problem, iOS 10.0.1 running on iPhone 7, upgraded from iPhone 6s. I've tried re-syncing from back up, I've let the phone upload my photos to iCloud etc, but there all out of sync. I agree with others here, when using other messaging apps to send a photo, you're not able to find it, because it isn't there in that album.

Me too! I am having this problem since changing from iPhone 6 to Iphone 7 by using iTunes to restore my backup on the new device. I hope that this issue will be solved soon as it is essential to find pictures again although there are nice new automatic albums!

I just had a call with a German 2nd-Level Apple Support employee and told him about the issue. I transferred screenshots from my camera roll and memories as well as some log files from my iPhone 7 to Apple Germany. As soon as I get any news from them, I'll let you know.

I am also having this problem. Updated from an iPhone 6 to iPhone 7 both on iOS 10 and now all of my pictures are out of order. The timestamp on the top of the image is still correct but when I spoke to multiple apple tech support assistants they told me that the restore to my iPhone 7 caused a new timestamp to be applied in the background, even though the picture has the correct one. They did not offer any fix.

Same issue for me - I hope they fix it very soon, otherwise I will return my iPhone 7
