Camera Roll pictures out of order in iOS 10

I just received my new iPhone 7 and after successfully restoring it from a backup of my iPhone 6, I noticed that all my photos in the Camera Roll are out of sync. I realize they are supposed to be in chronological order from when they were taken, but they are very mixed up...some photos/videos that I took back in February. I have always restored my new device from a backup whenever I've upgraded to the latest iPhone and have NEVER had this problem.

I have read through some of posts on here where people have had this issue or something like it in the past, but nothing has been listed as a direct fix for this problem. I have tried anything and everything I have found online or here as a way around fixing the out-of-order, and nothing has worked.

This is extremely frustrating! Would someone please help?!

I have the new iPhone 7 - 256Gb Black, running iOS 10.0.1.

Thanks!

I have the same problem too.

Only some of the oldest photos taken from jan 2013 to june 2015 are positioned at the end of the sequence, not according to the temporal order.

All videos are disorganised too.

New photos and videos are positioned at the end of the roll.

This problem occurred after a "stressfull moment": my storage was almost full and my iphone turns itself off.

I cant believe they would be so short sighted as not to fix a bug they caused....... Like IOS 9 without camera roll... they added it again within a few updates.

Why the **** cant they just do the same ie update with camera roll removed then quick follow up update adding with order fix....

Tbh why they **** isnt there already the ability the sort by date or how ever!!!!!

Well this experience has left me with a bitter apple taste in my mouth... after years or apple products, and getting my family, friends and daughter on board with iPads, iPods, apple watches, macbook airs and iphones im going to look to off load the lot and try something a bit different and stick two fingers up to this poor customer service....

So what recommendations for a non apple phone and any advice on a surface pro.

If anyone at apple with any balls would like to directly reply to my message id be amazed.

Btw the new emoticons are rubbish.

I contacted Apple directly regarding this issue when it happened to me. What caused it for me is that I took it upon myself to find all my photos from the past 15 years and drop them into Photos on my mac, so they'd be saved in the cloud and available on my phone.

Even though the photos have the correct metadata for when they were taken, the "All Photos" album on the iPhone is actually just a renamed "Recent Photos" that we had a few iOS versions ago, all this according to Apple Support. So basically, I dumped 30K photos into my library that were all put in the front of any existing photos in my iCloud Photo Library, instead of in the chronological order of when the photo was taken.

Apple needs to allow us to change a setting to sort by date taken vs date created/modified

Yesterday updated to ios 10.2.1 and all of a sudden my camera roll is mess, all pics out of order. Also I noticed that in my recently deleted pics appeared photos permanently deleted months ago (so I had to delete them again).

I tried all tips from this topic but no success.

Is there any permanent solution for this, will Apple give us any fix for this.

Very sad Apple user 😟

This is pathetic. I performed the update to 10.3 this morning. I though at first it has lost everything since Christmas, then I realised that they are all there, photos taken on the same day are together but the days are all jumbled up. I have 2 other devices, all 3 devices synchronise. I haven't updated them yet, but when I looked at the photosynthesis them , they are in the same disorderly mess. Does that mean it's the order on iCloud that has been messed up by the update. I'm quite annoyed about this latest shambles

My camera roll has been out of chronological order since I switched to "photos" from iPhoto about 4 years ago. I had an old duo core iMac and bought a new one so when I started using the photos app instead of "iPhoto" I noticed my 7000 photos were all mixed up chronologically. I thought it was me. I think this issue may be older than just the iOS 10 update.

I've owned iPhone 4, iPhone 5, iPhone 6, and now own iPhone 7. When iOS 10.0 came out, my Camera Roll photos became out of order. The date ranges of the photos span from 2012 to present day. But they're not all mixed up; there's a chunk of photos from 2012-2014 that are in the "middle" of all these photos from 2012-2017. However, all photos are in correct chronological order in Moments.

I've tried power cycling, un-syncing and re-syncing the photos, and restoring my iPhone. Nothing has fixed the issue, despite updates to iOS 10.1, 10.2, and 10.3.

After a week talking to two Senior Apple Care Advisors, today I talked with a tech support specialist for Photos on iOS and Mac. Apple is aware of this issue and they're tracking it. Here's the explanation:

In iOS 10, Apple changed the way Camera Roll sorts the photos. In previous versions of iOS, Camera Roll photos were sorted chronologically, regardless of when the photo was added to the device (say, through migrating photos to a new iPhone). Moments sorts photos this way; that's why you're seeing them display chronologically.

In iOS 10, they're now sorted by when photos were added to iPhone. This is why you have some chunks of photos appearing out of order. Those photos are mixed up because they were added to your photo library through migration. From Apple's perspective, this Camera Roll behavior is (unfortunately) functioning as expected; they don't see it as a bug.

My advice is if you have this same issue, to schedule a call with Apple Support so that your opinion can be heard and documented. If enough of us voice our concern, it could lead Apple to revert to the previous Camera Roll sorting behavior. Remember when they took Camera Roll away but then added it back after an outcry from the community?
