I see your iPhone and iPad are receiving attachments that are formatted as "winmail.dat" files which you're unable to open. I'll be glad to help.
If your Mac email contains a winmail.dat attachment -- While this article is for Mac emails, the issue is the same. Once the sender updates their email apps, the Mail apps on an iOS device and Mac should be able to open the attachments.
In the meantime, there are also winmail.dat readers available for your devices as well.Have a great day and thanks for joining Apple Support Communities.

Sep 17, 2016 2:43 PM in response to SnickZ.by Peterboynz,That doesn't solve my problem. My devices are both using the latest software including all apps, I should be able to open attachments from within the email app as I could before update to ios 10. They sit on the gmail server in their native format, they should arrive in my device in their native format as they did previously. I am not interested in another app just to read my mail, it should all be in one place. What is Apple doing about it?
