I can't import my photos from Canon 5D mark iv to Aperture 3.5.1 What is wrong?

I have Canon 5D Mark iv and after importing the files the system told me "usupported image format"

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

I have Lightroom CC on a 2016 MBP 15" with OS X Sierra and have the same error message when trying to import directly to Lightroom from the Canon 5D mk IV. The solution is easy, take the card out of the camera and import the photos to Lightroom CC from a card reader. Lightroom CC has been updated to read the 5D mk IV RAW files. It would appear that current Sierra is not only unable to process the RAW files but is also unable to properly recognise the 5D mk IV hardware. Whatever, the above is a cheap and not too troublesome solution. Enjoy your new camera 🙂

The camera is not yet on the list of currently supported cameras: Digital camera RAW formats supported by OS X El Capitan - Apple Support

The Canon EOS 5D Mark III is supported, but the newer model not yet.

Once Apple releases the RAW support for this camera, it will probably require MacOS X El Capitan or the new system to come. All new RAW support versions have been released for the newest OS X version.

So you may want to upgrade to El Capitan and Aperture 3.6 while it is still possible.

Even after Apple stopped the developement for Aperture, you can still update to Aperture 3.6, if Aperture is appearing in your Purchases history and you are running El Capitan, see: Updating to Aperture 3.6 After the Release of Photos

Apple has still not added RAW support for your camera. The newest list for digital RAW support on Sierra is here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207049

Adobe just added the support for Canon 5D Mark iv to Lightroom and DNG converter 9-7. http://www.canonrumors.com/adobe-releases-dng-converter-9-7-with-eos-5d-mark-iv- support/

I hope Apple will soon follow up. Can you use the software that came with your camera to develop the RAW and convert it to another lossless format like TIFF, while you are waiting?

It's good idea, but doesn't work at 1000 or more files 🙂

Hi Tusim,

I think it's time you switched to Adobe Lightroom. Can't wait around for Apple to update camera raw for Aperture. The subscription is $9.99 a month for Lightroom and Photoshop. I waited to go with Adobe CC till I bought the Canon 5D Mark IV. I was using the Adobe software but the non CC versions do not work with the 5D raw files and there is no update to the older software in sight so I had to switch to CC.

Don't know why I waited so long. They work great with the new raw files in the Canon 5D4.

Let aperture go and update to Adobe CC. It's worth every penny.

An alternative to Lightroom would be DxO Optics Pro. It offers superb RAW processing and you can use it as a photo editing extension from Photos for Mac.

The "Supported Cameras" site is showing the support for your camera to be scheduled for November:

But note the footnote about sRAW and mRAW.
