Insert your computer's original disks and search for an X11 option; this may either be part of a custom installation, or there may be an item named X11User with a yellow package icon. In the second case, double-click the package and follow the onscreen prompts.
Although, before you go through all that... what type of text editing program are you trying to use? There is a basic text editing program in OS X and lots of free ones out there that don't rely on X11.
Just as yaume said... get NeoOffice... it's built around OpenOffice, but it's designed for OS X... specifically so you don't need to use X11 (which looks horrible in OS X by the way).
Be SURE to download the Intel version... not the PPC version. The PPC version needs to be translated to Intel through Rosetta which makes it painfully slow. The Intel version is very usable... it just has a bit of an initial load time... But hey... it's free!
