Q: Iphone 7 reception

Just "upgraded" from a 5S to a 7 and the reception is terrible.  Had friends who got 6's and had the same problem so held off for the 7.  My 5S works fine at my house, never an issue, my new 7 no one can hear me.  Very disappointed! Seems like all the features are more important than working as a phone.  Still have a 5S work phone that works perfectly at my house.  Any suggestions?

I have iPhone 7. Reception drops randomly. Also it gets hot while on standby. My iPhone 6 and wifes iPhone 5s work perfectly in same locations and they dont get hot either. Tried all usual procedures (Reboot, Hard Reset, Updated to latest version of iOS, Erase and restore as new) but still getting issue. It's random as well so cant replicate so don't know how to show Genius Bar staff if I end up taking it in.

Anyone else having these issues and what can I do?

So you're taking it back? Have Apple acknowledged the issue? And can you even get a Genius Bar appointment? Been trying for the last couple of days but no appointments available, unless I travel 73 miles to another Apple Store rather than my 'local' Apple Store. Seems they're more interested in making new sales than helping current customers who have issues.

A senior advisor from AppleCare reached out to me yesterday regarding my earlier post and is trying to get more information for the engineers, so they are at least trying to figure out what's going on. Unfortunately, I've been playing phone tag and haven't been able to get anything accomplished yet. Hang in there, I'm sure they will get to the bottom of it and get it resolved.

I'm having serious reception issues with my iPhone 7 too. I'm on Verizon's network and I have terrible reception. When using my phone it constantly cuts out so I can not hear the person on the other end or it cuts out so they cannot hear me. When I am driving and using my phone it is pretty much useless and constantly cuts out. I am a long time iPhone user so I am very aware of how to use the product. I have also noticed that my phone is frequently getting stuck in 3G until I toggle the airplane mode on/off. My wife has an iPhone 7 and I have observed while driving that her phone will have LTE service with 2-3 bars of reception while mine drops down to 3G until I toggle between airplane mode. I have tried restarting my phone and I do not have a case on my phone to obstruct the speakers. When receiving my iPhone 7 I didn't set it up as "New" but instead I set it up from my last saved backup on iTunes. I just changed my Cellular Settings to Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Enable LTE > Data only. I changed the setting from Voice & Data to Data Only. Hopefully, this will help with regards to the dropped calls. I have read that many people have tried changing out the sim card only to find that the problem still persists. I am an avid Apple user but I am highly disappointed that my new iPhone doesn't function better. I really hope that this information helps to find a solution for the problem. Please let me know if there is anything else I can try.

    Thank you,

    iPhone 7 user

Managed to book a Genius Bar appointment. Judging from my experience and reading this forum, I am sure it's a hardware issue. Hopefully they will replace the handset and it'll be 'happy ever after'. I would suggest trying to get a replacement. My wife has the iPhone 7 as well but she ain't having this problem. Points to a hardware defect.

There have been others on other forums that have gotten replacement devices and the problem persists. Let us know if you get new hardware and it solves the issue.

I have been working with AppleCare to try to diagnose the issue. They installed a profile on my phone to log data for a few days and will forward that to engineering and see what they come up with. To me it sounds like a carrier software/firmware issue. Why it only affects certain devices though, I don't know. I am on Verizon 25.1, what are you and your wife on? The reported cases are mostly Verizon, although there have been a few AT&T issues but I don't know if it is the exact same symptoms. Most of the Verizon cases, mine included, seem to be when moving from one tower to another it drops to 3G or 1X and gets stuck until you toggle airplane mode and force it to reconnect.

I got a new 7 and the problems remain. I asked the guy who helped me with the exchange if anyone else was having these types of issues, and he told me that he hadn't heard from anyone about what I have been experiencing. I don't know what to do about this, but my phone is borderline unusable. It's just a really expensive iPod at this point.

Went to Genius Bar today and was told they can't find any issues so cant do anything about it. I insisted there was an issue and I need a solutio. After a bit of verbal ping pong a second Genius gave a second opinio. Which was, they can't do anything because they can't find an issue with the iPhone but he will replace it as a good will gesture. Howeve, they don't have a replacement in stock and will call/email when my replacement arrive. Genius!.

Well i posted earlier about this same issue i was having.  I have been having great reception outside of my house but within my house only 1 bar and could not make calls.  Been so frustrating I was able to return phone.  But then phone asked me if I wanted to enable wifi calling.  So I said yes and set it up and now i can use my phone perfectly inside but on wifi.  Calls are clear and its working even though its not an official fix its working.  then when i leave house it switches back automatically to phone when i leave.  It at least is a working solution for now and my phone works.
