Q: Setting up new MacBook Pro with iPhone

Hey,

Have recently gotten a MacBook Pro 2012 with internal superdrive running elcapatain.

It is for girlfriend and want to set it up so it will sync with her phone but not with iMac (late 2013) in household .

Her contacts her calendars, her music playlist her photos with out syncing to the iMac at our house.

It seems the issue is using my existing Apple ID. on her phone and the new macbook pro. To be able to have her iPhone and the macbook pro reflect each other but not sync contacts ect. with iMac , is the only way a new apple ID ? If so is family sharing a way to still be able to share purchases on the 2 devices ? Or get new apple ID for macbook pro and simply authorize each of the devices for both apple id's ?

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

    Hi Reed Scott,

I understand that you have some questions about your devices in your household and shared Apple IDs. Based on your description of the scenario and your desired outcome, I'd suggest that you create a new Apple ID for your girlfriend and use Family Sharing to be able to access each other's purchases:

iCloud - Family Sharing - Apple

One thing to keep in mind is that with Family Sharing, all purchases will be charged to the Organizer's payment method.

Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!
