Almost no apps run in the background. Double-tapping the Home button then force closing any apps you see there will often cause your phone to slow down as you have to relaunch apps when you need them again rather than simply unsuspend them.

Rebooting your phone doesn't free up storage space. In certain circumstances it may free up working memory that didn't get properly released.

Turning off Low Power mode may speed the phone slightly up at the expense of the battery life. But none of these suggestions should be necessary if the phone is working properly. Not using features shouldn't be the first option. Solving the problem should be. Restoring the phone from a back up doesn't actually take very long and stands a good chances of resolving the issue completely. That will allow the user to continue to take advantage of all the features on their phone.

I have exactly the same issue with my iPhone 6 126GB,

Performance is very low. I do have 2 the same devices. One is working fast, second very slow. I tried all what is possible, form restart, stops apps, delete apps, to restore. Nothing were helpful. My iPhone works slow. Trying to take a picture, needs 5-10 sec to start the app. I did performance test of both devices. Results shows difference, 50% slower performance of second iPhone. I started my experience with iPhone 3, then 4, 5, 5s, now 6. I am afraid if I will choose iPhone for my next new cellphone.

I have a 6+, 64GB which has been performing poorly on iOS 10 as reported by many in this thread. Some of the stock iOS apps were very slow: it took a very minimum of 4 seconds to launch Messages or the camera for example. My phone has 12GB of free storage.

I spent quite a few hours, preparing the phone to be factory reset. My initial plan was to manually restore my apps/data afterwards, through a mixture of off-line backups (photos) and iCloud sync features. Then I realized that there are some stock iOS apps (activity and health are the two I discovered) whose data can't be restored other than through an iTunes or iCloud backup. So the "solution" advocated by some of performing a factory reset without restoring a backup really cannot be qualified of such unless you're happy to loose some potentially very valuable data...

(Very) long story short, it took a good 4 hours to get my phone back to its former state, which entailed re-syncing my iTunes library. Needless to say this last point didn't complete cleanly and I'm still left with dozens of "ghost" songs, but that's another massive long standing Apple fail story which is told elsewhere.

Then my Apple Watch also had to be reset and took another hour or so to restore.

Next, I had to interact with call centres of two banks and one store card, whose apps had de-activated themselves due to the reset. In one case, I had to wait for a snail mail letter for functionality to be restored.

All in all, this little dance wasted well over a day of my life but I thought it was worth it because my iPhone was indeed back to something usable (meaning opening Messages now only took only about 2 seconds). However that joy was short lived because a couple of weeks later, the phone is back to its sluggish, barely usable self.

My gut feel is that the issue is down to the lack of RAM in the 6+ (only 1GB). This is certainly not to be read as an apology of Apple, even if they only "accidentally" figured out that doubling the RAM in following gens and piling up on memory requirements in iOS 10 meant that it accelerated the obsolescence of that particular (6) generation.

Same problem for me with IPhone 6 Plus 128GB.

It has 70Gb free.

In backed up to iCloud then erased the iPhone and restored it from the backup.

Didn't help at all.

I disabled background app refresh for all apps, doesn't help either.

I guess I have no choice but to buy iPhone 8 when it comes out. I'm going to miss the audio jack.

If you have not restarted your iPhone since the update, try that: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.

same issue. Every aspect of the phone is slower! Opening apps, the phone app, etc. Quite frustrating!

That hasn't been my experience at all.

Try restoring iOS and your backup. If that doesn't improve things, restore iOS using iTunes and set it up as a new phone. There may be a problem (corruption) that is contained in your backup.

I too experienced this with my 6. I upgraded to 10.1 on Friday 16th and noticed lagginess immediately following completion of the update. Most apparent was the slowness of the camera to start when activated via swiping on the lock screen. Its now Sunday and I've just restarted the phone for the first time since that Friday installl and, fingers crossed, the lagginess appears to have gone away.

As other have suggested, the best option may be to backup via iTunes and then perform a complete fresh restore of that backup. At least that way you know that everything is restored in order and as cleanly as can be.

I would backup to icloud and do a clean install, then setup up as a new phone.

I have the same problem..I've restarted and it's the same painfully slow experience!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had the same issue, then 10 0.2 came out but it did not do anything to performance. RAM management is horrible in my opinion. Everything has to reopen again. Three days ago I booted 9.3.5 back on my device. One week on iOS 10 was enough. It's really not a great update for devices without 3D touch.

9.3.5 performs like an iPhone should perform, that's why I am going to wait a while before upgrading again.
