Q: Battery Charging Problem with slight water damage

So my younger sibling had my iPod in her swim bag and forgot to put the iPod in a plastic bag, and instead throw the iPod in with her wet towel. Right when we found out about it (the iPod also wasn't turning on), we threw it in some white rice for about two days. When I took it out, I plugged it in to a charger cord and, with a sigh of relief, the battery with a white lighting bolt below it showed up. I had it stay plugged in over night. When I woke up, I checked the iPod and it was still on that same battery screen. I looked up ways to clean the charger port (there was some teal rust in the port) and then tried to get the iPod to actually charge, but that never happened. Also, when you have the iPod screen on and you tilt the top of the iPod down towards the floor, you can see blue and black water marks.

Do you have any suggestions of what I could do to get the iPod to actually charge? Or is it useless??

iPod touch, iOS 6
