Q: iPhone 7 Plus bluetooth audio issue with BMW ConnectedDrive

Hi,

I just upgraded to an iPhone 7 Plus running iOS 10.0.1 and am having issues playing music through Bluetooth on BMW ConnectedDrive.  I've upgraded the BMW software on my car to the latest version from BMW's website, but i still get disconnected on bluetooth after about 5-10 secs after playing music.  I've tried to restore the phone and set It up as a new phone.  I've deleted the connection both on the device and car, but the issue persists.  Is anybody else encountering this problem?

Thanks!

All.  I see some saying that this issue is tied to iPhone 7.  I am a developer and as soon as I installed the beta for iOS 10  months ago on iPhone 6s plus - these symptoms started.  I think it is probable that iPhone 7 brings more issues to light.  I did notice that iphone 5 worked without issue - without beta 10.  I spent a few hours in my 650 today and had a host of issues.  Screen refreshing every few seconds - music not stopping - but at times hard to change songs - all Apple music based.  Whether connected via bluetooth or USB.  Siri also stopped working after a bit from the steering wheel.  Bluetooth audio was broken in the beta - however USB worked.  Since the release of 10 - things have gotten worse.  By the way - I have a brand new iPhone 7 in the box - im still on my 6s Plus.  For what its worth...

Yeah ever since Apple started streaming music from the cloud, music in my BMW started acting up and skipping songs... Since getting the iPhone 7 the first song when connected plays for 5-15 seconds and then it stops playing through the car speakers but continues playing on the phone - Apple tech support acknowledges the problem and said they will have a fix soon :-)

Sorry to report 10.0.2 does not fix the problem on my 2015 M4. Very disappointed.

For what it's worth, I am able to connect iPhone as just a phone not an audio device. I can use hands-free calling over Bluetooth and play music over USB connection. Music over Bluetooth still freezes and should be disabled in Bluetooth connections.

Thanks for your feedback. I hope 10.0.3 will soon come out to address this issue.

    I have a 2013 M135i and I'am very bothered by this...

I too am having this issue with my iPhone 7 Plus in our BMW 2014 i3.  Device syncs/connects and music playback stops after 10 or so seconds or immediately if I change songs.  Issue is nonexistant with my other halfs iPhone 6 Plus.  I understand there are always issues with early adoption; I trust Apple will remedy the issues promptly.

I have the same exact issue on my BMW X5 2016. I called Apple support and spent an hour on the phone with a representative who was very friendly but unfortunately was not able to resolve my issue. I have tried everything everyone else has tried and nothing has worked. Over Bluetooth I am able to make and receive phone calls but when it comes to listening to music I am usually able to listen to the first song and once the second song comes on it just stops. What I do now is before I turn the car on I plug my iPhone 7 into the USB cable, this way I can listen to music without any issues and still make and receive calls via Bluetooth. I am on the latest iOS. Lets hope Apple comes up with a solution in the latest iOS 10 update cause this is very frustrating. I had no issues with my iPhone 6s, even when it was on iOS10.

Same issue with by 2016 X6 and iPhone 7...

Moreover, when using the speaker in the car for phone conversation, they voice volume is so low... I turned the car's volume to max as well as my iPhone 7... Still, the voice volume is very low.. Same thing happens to my other 2 cars.

I'm having the same exact issue.  Both the iPhone 7 (iOS 10.1) and Connected drive software are current.

Update:  I tried the new 10.0.2 update and no luck.  In fact it may be worse as my USB connection has now stopped working alltogther as well.

I have this same issue with my 2015 Lexus GS. I did hours of troubleshooting to determine that the issue is specifically with the iphone 7/7+ and not related to iOS 10.0.2 (my phone 6+ plays music with no issues and the iOS 10.0.2 and my iphone 7+ connects to other bluetooth devices like my soundbar and doesnt have the same issue.

I contacted my Lexus Technology Specialist from my dealership and he informed me that that the issue is related to the iPhone 7/7+ is using a newer bluetooth protocol of which even 2016 model Lexus / Toyota's are not equipped for. He also stated that updating the bluetooth protocol in the vehicle requires a hardware update and cannot be fixed by a software update. There is not hardware update available by Lexus either and when one becomes available it will most likely not be covered under warranty.

You can read more about my troubleshooting and others with the same issue on this related post:

This issue is not specific to bmw as i have read on readdit, and a search on this site, as well as have experienced issues as well.

I just wanted to add to your discussion to let you know that its not just BMW as it seems to be affecting multiple manufactures.

My brothers 2013 kia optima has same issue.

His 7+ as well as my 7+ both experience cut outs and turning off in his car.

Tried hard reset, reset all network settings, unpair/repair, forget device and delete from car.

    Still have issue.

In my 2015 Subaru STi, i dont have the audio issues.  However, i have to manually connect every time i start the car.  Not a unpair/repair, but i have to go into the car stereo, list the phone and hit connect.  Very frustrating.
Iphone 6, 6+, and 5s do not have any of these issues in either vehicle.

I have the older Sync in my 2011 F150.  No issues with my F150 with the 7+ or previous phones.

Talked to lead tech and he said he will pass on this info and may call me back to collect logs.
Talked to someone on reddit who tried the 10.1 beta and it did not fix his issue either.

Keep calling so we can get this fixed.

FWIW, i have been getting new phones since the original, i have never had more issues than with this latest 7+ purchase.
