Cannot connect Bluetooth headphones direct to Apple Watch 2

Neither of my Bluetooth headphones will connect directly to my Apple Watch 2.

They successfully connect to both my iPhone on iOS10 and my IPad on iOS9.

Thanks

Hi

It may help to unpair your headphones from your iPhone and iPad before pairing them to your Apple Watch.

Check also that you are placing your headphones into pairing / discovery mode, in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

It may also help to move the watch and headphones away from any other active Bluetooth devices when pairing them.

Thanks for starting this topic Gary. I have the same problem with the 'old' watch. Last week pre-update to watchos 3 it was communicating with by Bluetooth jogging earphones perfectl, as it has since origi purchase. After upgrading to the new OS, it can connect (handshake confirmed by green light on my earphones and 'connected' text in settings>bluetooth) but when you press the play button, an airplay dialogue box times out the connection. In other words, the problem you described is happening to a 1st gen watch owner who had previous success with Bluetooth pairing and music playing before upgrading watchOS to 3.

Hope this note contributes to a solution,

dwl

Hi Gary

Apple Watch is compatible with most Bluetooth headphones that use the A2DP profile, but it may not be compatible with some, especially those that offer additional features such as a built-in media player.

Bragi Dash's features include fitness tracking and a built-in media player. It is not listed by the manufacturer as being compatible with Apple Watch:

I suggest that you contact the manufacturer for more information and assistance:

Those should work with your Watch (especially since they did before) the article you listed is regarding compatibility for their app/BTLE. As it says in that article they should work at an IEM with any device supporting A2DP. You may have to turn off BT on your other devices using the app in order for them to work with Watch.

OK here's the latest!

from Bragi:

Thanks for your message!

Our increased security measures are currently not supported by all devices but we are working on improving compatibility with these devices. We are always looking to expand the compatibility with future updates. Please stay tuned.

I'd say it's a no brainier that they have to work with the watch so I expect that'like come soon.

However I did get some plantronics backbeat fit headphones to connect and they work very well, however they also have a little quirk in that you need to turn airplane mode on and off on the watch before they will reconnect.
