Q: I have to download all of my music manually, iPhone 7???

I have way too much music, a mix of purchased, ripped and Apple Music. I had about 90 gigs stored on my iPhone 6, just bought the 7 and restored from backup. All the music shows up but I have to manually download all of it. Is there a way to automatically download all or do I have a new hobby for the Fall? Help!

iPhone 7, iOS 10

    Hi jwp413,

Thanks for your question.  As you state you have a mix of purchased, ripped and Apple music in your collection, how this data gets stored on your iPhone 7 depends on their source.  Your iTunes or iCloud backups do not include the content from the iTunes Store or Apple Music.  So, what I would suggest is to update your iTunes Library on your computer and then sync your iTunes Library to your iPhone to get the content that you want stored on your iPhone.

Update iTunes Software and Download Purchased Content
    1. Open iTunes on your computer.  Make sure it is updated to the latest version. On the menu bar click iTunes > Check for Updates
    2. From the menu bar, click Account > Check for Available Downloads
    3. If you wish, change the settings in iTunes to automatically download purchased content in the future.  (iTunes > Preferences > Store > Automatic Downloads)
Sync your iTunes Library with your iPhone
    1. Turn off Apple Music and iCloud Music Library on your iPhone 7 and connect the device to your computer.
    2. Sync your computer to your iPhone to copy whatever portion of your 90 GB of music that you want to be stored on your iPhone.
    3. Once the syncing is complete, disconnect the iPhone.

Turn on Apple Music and iCloud Music Library on your iPhone 7

By this point, you should have the majority of your music now residing on your iPhone, if that is your intent.
Any content from Apple Music that you want to have stored on your iPhone for offline listening will have to be downloaded directly to your iPhone.
The fastest way to do this is to download playlists, but you can also download by artist, album or song.

I've included a few resources here to explain syncing, Apple Music, and iCloud Music Library in more detail.

Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes on your computer using USB

Use Apple Music in the Music app

    Turn on iCloud Music Library

    Take care.
