However rather than find out what kinds of hardware options you
may have on-hand, I've found a few ideas for you to ponder here:
https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+burn+OS+X+10.5+install+DVD+on+two+single+layer+discs
Other options include Target Disk mode and use of supported built
in optical drive to install (where possible) a system to another Mac.
Or use external FireWire optical drive that supports dual layer DVD
media and hope the original install disc works out. Or, use cloning
utilities to create a working copy of the installation for a complete
boot-capable copy that has all the updates & apps already on it.
If you go looking for external FireWire devices (note oxford-type
chipset or equivalent is require to boot from these) be sure the
media or hard drive is correctly formatted to sustain the OS install.
Also, some disc burn utilities are better than others for the task of
making duplicates on optical drive media. You may choose to use
the disk image method; they may be insightful, if not successful.
Good luck & happy computing!
