Q: iOS 10 not syncing photos with iCloud

Hi all,

I've read a similar post where someone suggested a fix involving a folder on their mac called "iPhone", however that's not helped me..

Basically the situation is that after updating to iOS 10, I went into Photos on my iPhone 5s and started to organise my photos into folders. For the most part it was alright as most of the photos I was organising were relatively recent, however when I create a folder consisting largely of older photos, something weird happened..

About half of the photos (the older ones) have been replaced with empty grey screens rather than the actual photo, both as thumbnails and as full photos. This has happened in the new folder, and where the original file is stored under "All photos". I went to my iCloud storage in a web browser to check that the photos still existed, and they are still stored in iCloud. Which is where it gets weirder... none the of the folders I've created on my phone are in my iCloud storage, or in the Photos app on my MacBook Pro?

For some reason, it looks like my iPhone just isn't syncing with iCloud, and there's no obvious reason as to why..?

Can anyone suggest a fix? This had never happened before the update..

Try Settings/iCloud and slide off syncing. Wait a few minutes and then resync.

Have you tried signing out of iCloud and then sign back in?

I'm not really sure what option you're referring to, there isn't an option as universal as "syncing", and either of the options I have available run the risk of deleting all the photos from my phone, which I obviously don't want to do.. Even though they are backed up on iCloud, if there's an issue syncing then I don't want to lose the ability to see them on my phone :/
