ipod shuffle &bose headphones

My iPod shuffle will turn off/music will stop playing for no apparent reason. I got a new shuffle and the same thing is happening! My bose sport headphones have worked fine and work fine with my iPhone. Could both shuffles be bad or is there a compatibility issue with the headphones and the shuffles or a connectivity issue?

First, make sure the headphones plug is fully inserted into shuffle's headphones jack. It should click into place. The fit may be tighter than expected, especially if brand new. If connection points on plug are not aligned, you may still get audio, but the shuffle may not "sense" that a plug is inserted, so it times out and stops playing.
