This will happen when you first buy and set up your phone, especially if you are using your icloud backup. It can take 1-2 days and will require a hard reboot. It is downloading and indexing a lot of data and that creates heat. Your phone has an internal thermometer which wont let it get hot to the point of injury to you or damage to the phone. I am confident that most of the Sep. posters have long since stopped having this issue.

Hello people, I post for first time in this forum, let me tell you my story about iphone 7.

I bought one iPhone 7 256gb from Australia, it had the version of iOS 10.0 on 16th of September.

For 2 days the phone worked excactly as supposed to work but after that the phone get hot everytime without using it

and the battery was depleted in about 4 hours without using the phone, also when I switched off the phone the battery continued to drain even if the phone was switched off...when the battery was full depleted the phone became colder.

I Charged it again and again and the problem continue. I worked on a ship in that moment and our voyage was from Australia to china and then I returned back to Greece where I am coming from. I searched all over the internet about this problem and I tried literally everything to fix it but I couldn't do it. My only solution was to bring the phone back to an Apple Store reseller because in Greece don't exist apple stores, they checked the phone and they saw that problems I mentioned above, and they said to me that they will replace it with new one because there aren't refurbished phones yet in greece in about 2 days later I had the new phone in my hands and it worked as supposed to work an iPhone...I don't know if they gave me a refurbished phone, how is it possible to find if they gave me a refurbished phone?...anyway my answer to this topic is if you have an temp or battery problem with your phone bring them back to the store you buy it... p.s the replacement was free of charge because of the one year guarantee in international countries... and the New iPhone had the version 10.0.3 now I am afraid to update to 10.1

As the iPhone7 and above models at the time of the factory due to the operator's operational errors, will result in technology, technology, assembly does not necessarily meet the apple's operating specifications. You can go to the applestore replacement and iPhone7 above the model process limitations will appear in the production process on some mistakes will cause some heat, will ring and other issues, apple in the supply chain to control.

Same. I just took a timelapse video with mine for about 10 minutes, and it was so hot I could barely touch it.

I've done this regularly with my 6 and it never heated up like this.

Battery life is equally poor or worse than my 6, which was having terrible battery life issues.

This is the first time I've considered switching after using iPhones since 2007. I miss when they just worked flawlessly and upgrading was worth it.

Boo on the camera too since I'm here 😉

You will need to do a hard reset on your phone (only contents and photos will save on the cloud under your Apple ID) - set the phone up like new using iTunes on your computer (phone should be plugged in) and then you will have to download the apps again. This solved the problem for me. The phone temp is completely normal now. Hope this helps!

I had this problem and I really noticed it after upgrading iOS to 10.1.1. I finally figured out how to do a reset by holding down the power and volume down buttons until the apple logo appears and that seems to have resolved the issue. My phone is no longer hot to the touch anywhere, especially around the camera. Hopefully this fixes it permanently.

Hi lj_1. It's fairly normal for your new iPhone to get some what warm during use. This may be because when you go through the set up and activate your device there's a lot of background activity taking place within the device. For instance it may be indexing your spotlight or downloading mails etc. So wait a couple of days and if the heat is unbearable or doesn't wear off, try taking it to Apple Store for further Help.

Hope this helps!

Same problem here - iPhone 7 gets so hot I cannot comfortably hold it anymore. I sent it to Apple for repair and was told that I do not have a problem and should shut up - way to go Apple. Will be going for a Google Pixel now and putting the iPhone in the bin where it belongs (just sorry about the cash, but I need a phone that works).
