    Hi Steveswan11,

I understand that you want to send messages with drawings in iOS 10, but you're having some difficulties. I am happy to help you figure out this great new feature to interact with your friends!

If you want to send drawn messages with Digital Touch, check out our article here:

Use Digital Touch on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Send a sketch, tap, or heartbeat

    1. In Messages, tap write message and enter a contact or go to an existing conversation.
    2. Tap . If you don't see it, tap  to find it.
    3. Then choose the type of Digital Touch that you want to send.
    4. When you're ready to send, tap Send a sketch.

    Sketch

Tap  to change colors. Then move one finger to draw.

If instead you wish to send handwritten messages, you can see more about that here:

Use message effects with iMessage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

    Send a handwritten message

You can personalize your messages by adding a note in your own handwriting. Your friends and family will see the message animate, as if it were being written in front of them. To send a handwritten note, follow these steps:

    1. Open Messages.
    2. Tap write message and enter a contact or go to an existing conversation.
    3. If you have an iPhone, turn it sideways. If you have an iPad, tap  on the keyboard.
    4. Write your message or select one of the options at the bottom of the screen.
    5. If you need to start over, tap Undo. If not, tap Done. Then tap send message to send.

You need iOS 10 to send and receive an animated handwritten message. If you have iOS 9 or earlier, you'll receive a still image.

If you are still having issues with either of these, let us know what happens when you attempt to send a drawn message.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Cheers!
