Q: Clearing favorites bar

I would like to clear out my Safari Favorites bar and repopulate with bookmarks we use now.

I have opened “Show Bookmarks” opened the Favorites Bar folder and deleted all single bookmarks in there. BTW there are two Favorites Bar folders in there and I’ve deleted all single bookmarks in both.

I have restarted Safari and restarted the computer but still have many, many, many bookmark buttons spanning across my Favorites Bar.

How do I get rid of those!

Mac Mini / OS 10.11.6 / Safari 9.1.3.

Mac mini, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), Dell S2340L monitor

Have you tried secondary-click (control click) directly on the item in the Favorites bar and then click "Remove" in the menu that displays?

Yes, but there are too many. Before I deleted contents of the Favorite Bar folders, they said there were 1,200+ items inside!

I'm looking for a way to mass delete them, but also wonder who emptying contents of Favorite Bar folders didn't do it!

Oh wait, I just found that, no, the items for the Favorites Bar actually live in the main Favorites folder (the one that looks like an open book in the Edit Bookmarks page). Emptying the 1.200+ items from there did remove them from the Favorites Bar. Who knew?!
