Q: iPhone 7 Hissing Sound

Hey Guys,

I was wondering if any of you started noticing the hissing sound from the iPhone 7??

This happening usually while watching videos, games. Basically when the phone is at peak power.  My guess is that sound is a fan equivalent in the Mac but it made me curious.

iOS 10

Actually it has nothing to do with iPhone 7.

It is iOS 10. Today I was importing photos to Google Photos on iPad Pro 9.7" with iOS 10 and the hiss appeared!!!

My iPhone 7 Plus has the same issue. I can't hear the Hissing that much by playing videos or games, but if I'm recording a video and play it back I can hear the hissing noice clearly. you can hear it even better with headphones on.

To get an even clearer picture, I made the same video with an iPhone 6s Plus and send both same videos to my iPad Pro via AirDrop and listened to them with the same Headphones.

The video from the iPhone 6s Plus was completely silent. The video recorded with my new iPhone 7 Plus had a constant high pitched noise in it. It isn't changing much, just this constant cheeping noise.

Sometimes you can even hear the Cellular Noise kicking in. Never heard that on my 6s Plus.

Eh I don't believe it is. I listened to my iPad pro 9.7 after hearing it on my phone and didn't hear anything.  I believe it has to do with the processor on the newer phones

Wanted to share my experience this morning.

I called applecare and they were very quick to tell me to take it to the store for a replacement. Due to the lack of stock I asked if he could ensure they had one in stock...he called to confirm. So I drive to my local apple store where I bought the phone on friday.  The first day who checks me in says he hears nothing really flippantly. Than after waiting 30 minutes I spoke with a genius bar lady who took it in the back to hear it...comes back and confirms she heard it as well. She simply tells me that I shouldn't worry about it and doesn't know if they have any stock of that phone anyways if I wanted to exchange it. I was like, umm applecare called and said you had one...Im not going to deal with it and want to figure this out.  She says hold on and goes and speaks with a manager.  And just like that...wallla they have a 7 plus black in stock! Shocking I know.  The manager is really nice and says we can swap it out. I told them my fears about having the same issue and they recommend opening the new one and seeing if they can hear the sound when the boot up the new one...boom they hear it. So the manager listened to my phone, the new one and they both had it. He took my phone number and name down and said he was going to try and track down a newer, different batch phone to see if that one didn't have the sound.  Ironically I listened to one of the display models at the store and heard the same sound as well.

My opinion is that all of the plus models at least of the new phones make the sound. Some people simply can't hear it due to their hearing or the sound is really faint...but my buddy has it, and hearing it in three of the phones I tried at the apple store means I don't think this is as isolated as everyone thinks.  BUT it could be like some are saying, that it is in fact just how these devices will sound with the higher output of the A10 Fusion...I can be cool with that if we are assured its not going to lead to a loss of data or something blowing up in my pants...well the phone blowing up...you get what I meant?!

In my case, they want me to send my device for repair. Senior Advisor has given me this solution. I am not at all comfortable leaving a new phone for repair unless i hear it as the official solution by Apple. They did not speak about a replacement in my case.

Now this, it makes me re-consider the entire concept. I have tried the same thing on recording videos and i can clearly hear to the sound again. I could not try it with the earphones though. May be it is something with the stereo speaker setup.??

Whoever wants to reproduce this issue record a video and play it back with full volume.

Can you let us know when do you hear it ? How did you guys test it at the store with the new phone? Did you record any video or play a video on youtube?

I Hear it whenever the screen is on with few exceptions. They just held it up to their ears and heard it on mine. The one lady said she only heard it during the startup. my issue is not related to video, I haven't tested the sound in video, no need to as I can hear it all the time.

So ya, the support personnel i spoke to are not willing to replace the phone due the low inventory of these phones. Also at this point i am convinced that it either has a faulty stereo speaker setup or can be a bug in IOS 10, so i guess the processor and internals are safe.

Also i read on a few blogs that IOS 10.0.2 launch is imminent,  for now i want to stop thinking about it and wait for the software update. If that does not fix the issue, then i plan to walk into the store directly, avoiding talking over the phone.

I just got my iPhone 7 plus yeasterday and it does have the hissing sound, noticed it when I was doing my iCloud restore, it only happens on high power stuff. I am not running to apple yet they are probably aware but till they get caught up with orders don't think it will be fixed they are probably at the just make them like crazy and we will fix it later and swap them out. It is the risk we take being early adopters as long as the battery does not catch fire I am good for now I can only hear it from the back and with my ear to it.

True, 1st batch always has something or the other. I'm really not sure if it's a hardware or a software issue. I am really hoping its just a software glitch. I was waiting for 10.0.2, but nope this release did not fix the issue.

I am not facing the other issues reported like low call volumes, EarPods glitch etc. However, when a place a call on speaker i hear some drumming noise which vanishes once the call gets connected.

Eagerly waiting for 10.1!! i hope this hissing and everything vanishes in that release.
