Can I completely remove a people folder, or is the best thing I can do "hide" it?

I want to completely remove a people folder that iOS 10 automatically created, but I'm only seeing the "hide" option.

iPhone 6s, iOS 10

Hi mecopast,

I understand you are looking to delete some people from Photos on your iPhone in iOS 10. I know it's nice to have control over your data, so I'm happy to help.

This article has some additional details about the People feature in Photos on the iPhone. Looking through this article, it seems you are not able to delete people, but only hide them:

About People in Photos on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Hide people

You can hide people or groups that you don't want to see in your People album.

  1. Open the People album and tap Select.
  2. Tap the people that you don't want to see.
  3. Tap Hide.

If you want to see the people you've hidden, tap Show Hidden People.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Cheers!

Hey - I think I figured this out. I changed the name of the empty folder (actually said there was one picture but you couldn't see it) that I want to get rid of to the same name of another folder. I got the message, do you want to merge folders and I answered yes. This seems to work and does not have a negative impact on the folder I merged it with! Don't know why Apple got rid of the merge option....
