Q: why does my audio default to speakers instead of bluetooth for certain apps?

Hi guys, I've got a MacBook Pro (bought in 2013, dunno what edition etc) running osx 10.10.5 and the bluetooth output is baffling me. I connect and can play itune audio no problem, but VLC and Mozilla default to the inbuit speakers and I can't get it to play via bluetooth. This is the case for any bluetooth speaker I connect. Can anyone help??

    Hey ah.yes.what,

Thanks for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like you want all of the apps on your MacBook Pro to play through Bluetooth devices. We can point you in the right direction.

Make sure you're setting your Bluetooth device as the default audio output in the Sound preferences on your Mac:

OS X Yosemite: Set up Bluetooth audio devices

Select a Bluetooth audio device as your computer’s input or output device

    1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Sound.

    2. If your device is meant for sound output (for example, headphones), click Output. If your device is meant for sound input (for example, a headset), click Input.

    3. Select the device you want to use in the list of devices.

    All the best.
