Rented Movies not playing offline

Have for many years rented movies form the store and played them while travelling on boats, planes and trains.

Yesterday while crossing the channel on a ferry I tried to play a rented movie on my Mac but it wouldn't play due to my lack of internet connection - hard to find in the middle of the channel !

What has happened? This has worked well for years and been a great travelling companion.

I am not a cloud user nor do I want to be, all software is fully updated. Any ideas to fix the issue greatly received - I would hate not to be able to continue renting movies.

Hello hairygoose,

Thanks for your question. Like you, I like to watch my iTunes Store rentals when I'm traveling. I'd just like to clarify - Do you actually download the rental after your purchase it so that it is stored on your Mac's hard drive when you board the plane or ferry? You have 30 days to start watching a movie after you rent it in the US. Some movies can be streamed, but for best results, you want to have the content physically on your device so that an internet connection is not necessary.

If you did download the rental, and it would not play for you without an internet connection while on the ferry, click on the link below to report the issue to the iTunes Store Support Team.
