    Help us help you. Please provide as much information as you can:

     

    • Mac model and submodel (from "About ths Mac")
    • Mac OSX version. (also from "About this Mac")
    • Brand of external drive
    • how the external is connected--USB; FireWire, eSATA

     

    Believe me, you do not wnat us guessing at what kinds of equipment you have. That's a recipe for disaster!

     

    By the way, this forum is for Mac desktops made between 1998 and 2005. Is your computer that old?
