Owners: Local storage of photos

Hi!

I can't find any information about this, neither in discussions nor the user guide... So I wonder, are photos stored locally (I have everything in my iCloud Photo Library) on the Apple TV (4th gen) itself?

My idea is that I can have photos on my Apple TV and take the unit with me when I visit friends and parents. There hook it up to the TV and enjoy the photos together with everyone.

This would also affect my buying decision which version to get (32 or 64 GB).

I would be very grateful if any of the owners in here could check and verify if iCloud Library photos are stored locally on the Apple TV.

No, the photos aren't stored locally, other than a few for the screensaver and any that might be in cache. You certainly couldn't take your Apple TV away and see your whole collection.

Thanks for your answer, after some more research I finally found some information. Photos will be cached as everything else.. so there is no way to tell the Photos app to keep certain photos/albums ALWAYS on the ATV, they are still cached and as long as the space is not needed for anything else it should stay on the device.

Just like the iPhone does.

Can you confirm this?

No that's not how the phone works, the photos can be saved on a phone, they cannot be saved on the Apple TV.

if your photos are in the iCloud and you can access them when your computer is off then if you bring your appletv friends and parents house and connect the appletv to their wifi network it would be able to access your iCloud and the photos in which case of cause it would have not relevance if it has 32 or 64gb

about the size then unless you want many apps which has a lot of local storage (this would be mostly games other apps usually rely on accessing some sort of media or service from the internet and as such as a somewhat small local storage footprint) so on my appletv i installed all the stuff I wanted and is not close to the 32gb being full

The main reason for this question is the slow (and unstable) internet at my parents house. Having to download most/all photos on the spot would definitely be a show-stopper. So the more photos I can have stored locally on the ATV, the better.

Hi. If you can bring the photos on your phone, you could use AirPlay to show them on ATV. You can use peer-to-peer AirPlay to avoid conmecting to their WiFi. Turn on Bluetooth on the phone and wait a moment for ATV to appear in the AirPlay menu,
